In recent years, tea cultivation has gradually become an economically viable crop in Kon Plông commune. In Vi Choong village, the Dong Truong Son Clean Tea Cooperative currently provides stable employment for approximately 40 local workers, with incomes ranging from 7 to 9 million VND per month.
Since 2022, the Dong Truong Son Clean Tea Cooperative has been implementing a project to apply science and technology in tea cultivation and processing according to VietGAP standards. To date, the tea growing area has reached 120 hectares, of which 60 hectares are linked with more than 80 local households.
Many households have boldly converted their less productive cassava-growing land to tea cultivation. According to locals, tea is well-suited to the local soil conditions and provides a more stable income compared to some of their previous crops.
Along with developing raw material areas, the Cooperative has also invested in deep processing, developing more than 10 tea products, including 3 products that have achieved OCOP 3-star rating. The linkage model, from providing seedlings and technical guidance to guaranteeing product sales, has helped people feel secure in their production.
The formation of raw material areas linked to processing and product consumption is creating additional livelihoods for the Xơ Đăng people, while also opening up a direction for sustainable agricultural development in the locality.
