As a national Class I seaport, Dung Quat covers an area of over 1,000 hectares and has a depth of over 20 meters, allowing it to receive large-tonnage vessels year-round. Based on this foundation, many large-scale port infrastructure projects are being invested in to enhance its capacity for handling and customs clearance of goods.
Notably, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat General Container Terminal Project has a total investment of nearly 10,000 billion VND. Currently, phase 1 of the project has been completed and two berths have been put into operation. According to the plan, from September 2026, the investor will continue to implement phase 2 with the remaining six berths.
The investment in synchronized infrastructure has enabled Dung Quat Port to accommodate vessels with a tonnage of up to 70,000 tons, creating advantages in logistics costs and cargo transportation time. As a result, cargo throughput at the port has continuously increased over the years, from 45.7 million tons in 2024 to 50 million tons in 2025, with a target of reaching 70 million tons in 2026.
According to the plan, the Dung Quat port area will develop 9 berths with 38 piers, totaling nearly 8 km in length. Along with completing the port infrastructure, Quang Ngai province is focusing on attracting industrial, logistics, and deep-processing projects to maximize the advantages of the deep-water port.
Investing in infrastructure expansion and improving operational efficiency is creating conditions for Dung Quat Port to gradually assert its role as an important logistics center in the Central and Central Highlands regions, contributing to the economic development of Quang Ngai province.
