Ms. Mang Thi Dien - Party Cell Secretary, Head of Xom Bang Village said that the whole village currently has 727 households with 3,612 people, mainly Raglai ethnic people. The total production land area has 86 hectares of wet rice and 246 hectares of upland land producing crops such as: sticky corn, green beans, broad beans... depending on rainwater. To help local people improve production efficiency, in 2023 and 2024, Ninh Thuan province (old) has implemented the Project "Poverty reduction to support the development of value chain-linked production", supporting people to grow aloe vera. This project has opened up a new, effective direction in agricultural production, creating jobs and significantly improving income for many households.

The project covers an area of 4 hectares, with the participation of Son Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative, Canh Dong Viet Food Joint Stock Company and 32 poor and near-poor Raglai households; the project cost is nearly 2 billion VND, of which the state budget supports more than 1.4 billion VND, the rest is counterpart capital. Accordingly, Son Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative and Canh Dong Viet Food Joint Stock Company coordinate to organize production, provide technical guidance on planting and caring for crops, and purchase products for farmers. Thanks to farmers' good implementation of the process and techniques, especially the application of the water-saving irrigation model, aloe vera plants grow well, yield high productivity and quality, save water and significantly reduce production costs.

Walking around Xom Bang village, we were really impressed with the green aloe vera fields; the water-saving sprinkler irrigation system was installed straight and evenly spread over a large growing area, contributing to reducing the heat for the sunny land. Here, we met Mr. Thanh Lai Chu - Director of Son Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative, who was discussing with the people about cleaning the fields and periodically pumping water to ensure enough moisture for the plants to grow well. Each aloe vera field has the names of the implementing members, the date of sowing, the cultivated area... This method also helps people change their previous backward farming practices. Mr. Thanh Lai Chu said: "Participating in the project, we drilled deep wells, installed a water-saving sprinkler irrigation system and organized technical training. Aloe vera growers were guided through the process from sowing to harvesting. After the project ended, up to now, the aloe vera growing model is still effectively maintained by the people."

It is known that recently, Canh Dong Viet Food Joint Stock Company has organized the purchase of more than 10 tons of aloe vera from 11 households growing by the "root-cutting" method after 3 months of planting, with a guaranteed purchase price of 2,500 VND/kg, initially bringing in an income of 25 million VND/household, many times higher than growing rice, corn, beans... before. According to the leaders of Ninh Hai commune, well-cared aloe vera plants will yield 3-4 tons/sao/batch, farmers will have an average income of 7 million VND/household per month, significantly improving their income and life.

Ms. Mang Thi Dien shared: "Thanks to the implementation of the aloe vera planting project, not only has the income and life of local people been improved, but more importantly, it has helped people change their production mindset and gradually abandon outdated farming habits. In addition, in recent times, the transportation system has been quite convenient, and products have been easily consumed, making people very excited. In the coming time, we will continue to mobilize people and businesses to cooperate to expand the area of aloe vera, helping people increase their income and escape poverty sustainably."
