Along with the rapid development of digital technology and online platforms, the digital content market in Vietnam, including films, music , television, and video games, has experienced tremendous growth in recent years; however, this has also led to increasingly complex issues of copyright and related rights infringement.
In reality, copyright infringers often reap enormous economic benefits; receiving money from digital platforms, advertising revenue, and other commercial advantages, while incurring negligible costs. Therefore, these individuals not only engage in sensationalism and clickbait but also intentionally violate copyright without permission to maximize illicit profits.
Equally dangerous is the fact that these individuals are sometimes hailed by viewers and some websites as "content creators," "digital innovators," "influencers," etc. When individuals whose actions are essentially theft and harmful are perceived as "talented," it is not only a violation of the law but also a distortion of perception.
Representatives from the Copyright Office made a very accurate assessment, stating that the complex situation of copyright infringement in the digital environment is a result of a combination of economic motives of infringers, certain digital platforms, bad habits of some internet users, and the extremely rapid development of technology applications and digital devices.
The Copyright Office stated that it has been coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security to implement numerous measures to vigorously combat copyright infringement. This includes not only blocking and removing websites that distribute pirated content, but also addressing the sources that support these platforms in their existence and profit. The solutions will be implemented synchronously, with a faster, more flexible, and more deterrent approach. Intermediate platforms, internet service providers, advertising and electronic payment providers will be forced to increase their responsibility in handling infringing content. Infringing websites may be blocked from access, have their domains disabled, or their advertising or revenue streams compromised. For infringing websites hosted abroad, authorities will cooperate internationally to verify, share data, and take action.
When illegal revenue streams from the digital space are cut off, the public's respect for copyright is enhanced, and solutions are in place that violators cannot evade; the digital environment in Vietnam will certainly become healthier and more respectful of copyright and related rights.
