Alarming quality of German team

Germany had a disappointing start to their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, losing 0-2 away to Slovakia. Despite a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland shortly after, coach Julian Nagelsmann's team were still judged to have had an unconvincing performance.

Sharing about the recent results of the national team, Kroos said: "We are incredibly far from the chance to compete for the World Cup championship. This is not a problem of spirit or effort, but comes from the quality of the squad and the absence of individuals who can make a difference."

According to Kroos, Germany currently lacks many world- class players, which was the foundation of previous glorious periods. The former Real Madrid star emphasized: "There are no longer 50 faces who can step on the pitch and bring absolute confidence to the fans. We are lacking real leaders."

However, Kroos believes that Germany still has time to improve. The former midfielder believes that by next summer, Germany can assemble the best force. In case the stars perform at the right level, the chance to compete for the 2026 World Cup championship is still intact.

In the qualifying round, being in an easy group with Northern Ireland and Luxembourg also gave Germany more time to adjust and find new players to serve the team.
