The Daily Mail reports that winger Joao Mendes, son of Ronaldinho, has reached an agreement to join Hull City from Burnley, a Premier League club.
This is seen as a milestone in Mendes' career, not necessarily a step backward, even though theoretically he should be moving down to play in a lower league.
Joao Mendes, 20 years old, has gone through the youth academies of famous Brazilian clubs such as Flamengo and Cruzeiro. At the age of 18, he joined the Barcelona youth team.
Spanish media reported that at the time, Mendes hadn't really impressed the scouts at Camp Nou.
But then Barca president Joan Laporta intervened, suggesting that the youth team's coaching staff accept Mendes as a special privilege for the club legend.
Ronaldinho himself stated: "For my son's sake, I will visit Camp Nou regularly." Ronaldinho has always maintained a friendly relationship with Laporta.
However, after only a year, Mendes decided to leave Barca. The official reason was not announced, but European media speculated that he wanted to try to escape his father's shadow.

At Burnley, Mendes only played for the youth team and was never given the opportunity to wear the first-team shirt. This season, Burnley have earned promotion to the Premier League, and English football fans were hoping to see Ronaldinho's son play.
But that didn't happen, and Mendes decided to leave again to seek professional opportunities. He reached an agreement to move to Hull City, a Championship team that could meet his demand for playing time.
Mendes is 1.81m tall and plays as a winger, but can also play as a full-back. However, his talent is not highly regarded.
At 20 years old, Mendes is still working hard to shed the label of "son of a legend." At the very least, he's trying to prove that he can find a place in top-level football without relying on his father's connections.
