Thùy Linh suffered a shocking defeat to a 19-year-old player, being eliminated early at the SEA Games 33.

Despite being highly regarded in badminton, Vietnamese player Nguyen Thuy Linh was unexpectedly eliminated early from the 33rd SEA Games.

At noon on December 11th, Thùy Linh competed in the round of 16 of the women's singles at the 33rd SEA Games. Her opponent was the 19-year-old Indonesian player Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi.

In terms of experience, Thùy Linh clearly has the edge. Although Amartya has previously won a Super 100 title and is a rising talent, the "hot girl" badminton player of Vietnam is currently in top form.

In 2025, Thùy Linh reached the finals of Super 300 level tournaments three times. The developments in the first set led many to believe she would soon secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Experience helped Thuy Linh handle difficult shots and then put pressure on her opponent. The Vietnamese player had a streak of 9 points in this set, thereby winning convincingly 21-16.

However, from set 2 onwards, she unexpectedly faltered in the face of Amartya's significantly improved playing style.

The Indonesian player led for most of the set and reached set point when leading 20-17. Thuy Linh did not give up easily but fought to the end, successfully saving all three set points. But in the end, Amartya still won 22-20.

Set 3 was when the Vietnamese player was almost helpless, as her physical condition was no longer sufficient. Her shots also contained more errors, so she fell further and further behind towards the end.

Amartya secured another victory with a 21-14 score, thus creating a shock by defeating the 4th seed Nguyen Thuy Linh with a final score of 2-1.

With this result, the "hot girl" of Vietnamese badminton has yet to win any individual medals at the SEA Games. Previously, she only won a bronze medal in the team event at the 31st SEA Games in 2022.

As the fourth seed, Thùy Linh was expected to go far and achieve good results. However, a shocking defeat on the opening day meant the Vietnamese girl had to stop her journey early.
