On the afternoon of December 11th, at a press conference on the economy and society of Ho Chi Minh City, a representative from the Department of Construction provided information responding to the issue of ongoing road digging, barricading, and sidewalk renovation projects on many streets in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of the year.
According to the Department of Construction, in 2025 the unit issued approximately 120 construction permits for transportation projects. Specifically, 18 permits were issued for sidewalk renovation and upgrading projects (on 54 main roads in the central area).
Most of the projects, including road repairs and sidewalk renovations, are on schedule.
Many sidewalks in the central area have been in use for over 10 years, so from the beginning of 2025, the People's Committees of the localities will organize renovation and beautification to ensure safety for pedestrians, enhance urban aesthetics, and serve tourism .
The Department of Construction stated that the renovations have yielded clear results, contributing to ensuring traffic order and safety, and have been well-received by the public. Many routes are currently in the final stages of completion to be ready to serve the travel needs of people during the Lunar New Year 2026.
Regarding construction regulations, when granting permits, the Department of Construction requires investors to only occupy the road surface for construction between 10 PM and 5 AM the following morning, in order to ensure traffic flow.
Regarding sidewalk construction, the contractor can work 24/7 to expedite progress and minimize disruption to residents' daily lives. During holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), construction is prohibited, except in critical or urgent cases approved by the competent authority.
Currently, investors are also accelerating their efforts to ensure the disbursement of public investment funds as directed by the Government and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
In the central area, projects to renovate the sidewalks on Le Loi Street and the land plot at No. 1 Ly Thai To (Vuon Lai Ward) are being carried out using socialized funding, striving for completion before the 2026 New Year.
Develop a separate plan for the An Phu intersection on Ring Road 3.
For key projects such as the An Phu intersection or the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, the Department of Construction, in coordination with relevant units, has developed specific solutions for each area to minimize the impact on traffic, especially during the peak travel demand at the end of the year.
