Nottingham Forest chairman Evangelos Marinakis has received mixed reactions from his own fans following his decision to sack manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Evangelos Marinakis' decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo was controversial.

Despite qualifying for the European Cup last season, Espirito Santo had to leave his position as Nottingham Forest manager after escalating tensions with the board. In particular, Santo's argument with President Marinakis in August was seen as the last straw.

Billionaire Marinakis then explained why he had sacked Espirito Santo: “After being promoted to the Premier League, and then gradually building up to qualify for European competition, the team now has to make the right move to compete with the best teams and challenge for titles.”

"We have appointed a manager with a strong and consistent track record of winning trophies. Ange Postecoglou has the ability and track record to do so, and the club is excited to have him on board in our ambitious journey," the Greek businessman added, explaining the reason for Postecoglou to take over at Nottingham Forest.

However, Marinakis's "big-sword" statements could not calm the anger of Nottingham Forest fans. After helping Forest qualify for the Europa League 2025/26, coach Espirito Santo is especially loved by the team's fans.

On many social networking sites, Forest fans believe that billionaire Marinakis is turning Forest into "his own toy" and behaving emotionally. "Nuno Espirito Santo deserves to be treated better," commented a Forest fan named Archie.
