Asia is about to have another Champions League champion

One of two players Lee Kang-in (PSG) and Mehdi Taremi (Inter Milan) will be crowned Champions League champion this year.

For PSG's Lee Kang-in, the Korean midfielder has had a mixed season. Lee has often been on the bench for Luis Enrique's side, but his contributions have been significant. Lee has scored six goals and provided six assists for PSG in Ligue 1.

Despite Lee's limited playing time, the midfielder could still be a game-changer in the final in Munich.

"The key factor for PSG to reach the final is solidarity. We play as a team, always help each other and aim for a common goal," Lee said ahead of the Champions League final.

Meanwhile, Mehdi Taremi also had a brilliant season in Europe, with 4 assists in the Champions League and 1 goal in the qualifying round against Red Star.

In the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, the Iranian star assisted Davide Frattesi to score, helping Inter win 4-3 and advance to the final.

Taremi became a secret "weapon" in the hands of coach Simone Inzaghi, often coming off the bench to bring changes to Inter with his experience and ability to seize opportunities.

"As an Iranian player, reaching the final is a dream come true. In my country, there are few players who reach the semi-finals of one of the biggest tournaments in the world . Everything is perfect," Taremi shared.

The last time an Asian player played in a Champions League final was Son Heung-min. The South Korean striker played the full 90 minutes in Tottenham's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in 2019.

To date, only one Asian player has won the Champions League, Park Ji-sung, playing for Manchester United in the 2007/08 season. However, the former player was not included in the final match against Chelsea and was not even on the reserve list.

Park then started in the 2009 and 2011 finals, but United lost both to Barcelona.

Both Lee Kang-in and Taremi have ambitions to reach the top. In the upcoming Champions League final, they will not only represent their individual talents but also symbolize the development of Asian football on the biggest stage in Europe.
