Vietnamese Student and Youth Day (January 9th) is an occasion for today's youth to be even more proud of the glorious traditions and to preserve and continue the flame of enthusiasm and dedication to building a beautiful and prosperous homeland.

Proud of the traditions of Ca Mau students.

Seventy-six years ago, the nationwide student movement against French colonialism erupted powerfully, continuously, and widely. Amidst those fiery days, many students fell before the enemy's guns and batons. Among them, Tran Van On, a student not yet 19 years old from Petrus Ky School, became a shining symbol of patriotism and the indomitable fighting spirit of Vietnamese youth when he bravely protected younger students and sacrificed himself during the brutal repression by the colonialists on January 9, 1950.

January 9, 1950, became a painful yet heroic and proud milestone. The First National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation, held in February 1950, decided to designate January 9th as the annual Vietnamese Student and Youth Traditional Day. Since then, the patriotic spirit of Tran Van On has become a source of inspiration for generations of students and youth on their journey of struggle, contribution, and growth.

In Ca Mau, that tradition fostered a spirit of dedication, indomitable will, and great sacrifice for the cause of national liberation among countless patriotic students. Notable examples include Phung Ngoc Liem, who detonated a mine to eliminate enemy troops at the Xung Ky restaurant in the heart of Bac Lieu market and bravely sacrificed his life, becoming an immortal symbol of courage; and Quach Vu (real name Quach Vinh Chuong), a son of the old Vinh Loi region, a close friend of the late musician Luu Huu Phuoc, who temporarily set aside his studies at the Law School in Hanoi to return to Ca Mau, using songs and music as weapons to ignite the revolutionary flame in the mass movement preparing for the general uprising.

Along with them are exemplary figures such as Huynh Thanh Dung, Nguyen Tich Thien, Hua Phuoc Ninh... who contributed to the heroic spirit of Ca Mau students.

Continuing the legacy, contributing

Continuing the tradition, the patriotism of Ca Mau students is demonstrated through their will and determination to study and train; through studying and following the thoughts, morals, and style of Ho Chi Minh ; and through their pioneering spirit and responsibility in revolutionary youth movements. Through this, students gradually develop beautiful character and lifestyles, nurture great ambitions, and contribute to building a more prosperous homeland and country.

From lecture halls and laboratories to intellectual playgrounds at home and abroad, Ca Mau students are increasingly asserting their capabilities, intelligence, and standing. The student movement in the locality continues to spread widely through many impactful programs and campaigns such as: "Ca Mau Students: Strong Identity - Rich in Aspirations," "Supporting Students During Exams," "Spring Volunteerism," "Green Summer"; along with movements like "5 Good Students," "3 Good Students," and "3 Well-Rounded Students"... This is a practical environment for students to comprehensively develop, accumulate skills, mature in their studies and lives, and at the same time make practical contributions to ensuring social welfare, protecting the environment, and promoting local socio-economic development.

The vitality of the student movement is evidenced by impressive results. In the last three academic years, the province has had more than 3,110 students winning provincial-level awards for academic excellence and 84 national-level awards; hundreds of students have been recognized with titles such as "3 Good Students," "3 Well-Rounded Students," "5 Good Students" at the provincial and national levels, and the "January Star" award... Many outstanding individuals not only excel in academics but also leave their mark in volunteer activities for the community.

Affirming the spirit of continuing tradition, Lam Huynh Nguyen Thao, a 12th-grade Literature student from Bac Lieu Specialized High School, an outstanding student honored in the 2024-2025 school year, expressed her determination: “Students in Ca Mau will continuously study, proactively conquer knowledge, innovate learning methods in a creative direction, actively conduct scientific research; and be ready to participate in revolutionary action movements, contributing to the realization of the goals of developing the homeland and the country in the new era.”

Students in Ca Mau are enthusiastically participating in sports to improve their health.

The aspiration to excel through knowledge is being strongly ignited in today's generation of students. Major policies of the Party and State, such as Resolution No. 57, which opens up new opportunities for development in science, technology, and digital transformation; and Resolution No. 71, which shapes a long-term vision for education and enhances the status of young Vietnamese intellectuals, create a springboard and further fuel the enthusiasm of students nationwide, and especially those in Ca Mau, to confidently innovate their thinking, master technology, and contribute to the nation's achievements in this era of progress.
