Appearing on the show "When We're 20 ," singer Phuong Vy had the opportunity to share her journey into music . Phuong Vy revealed that she inherited her musical talent and dream of conquering the stage from her parents.
The singer said: " My father was in a band, and my mother was a singer, but when life became too difficult, they had to quit singing to earn money elsewhere. So, my singing career is like fulfilling my parents' dream, and that's why they fully support me."
"The first time I held a microphone to sing was when I was 6 years old. I was nervous and scared, but I felt very proud because my parents were sitting next to me."
Phuong Vy shared this during the program.
Because both her parents loved music, Phuong Vy was very well -educated about respecting authors and songs. The singer revealed that she was once severely scolded by her father for altering the lyrics of a song: "My father was both my driver and my 'advisor' whenever I went to sing. One night, I sang the song 'Night, I See Myself as a Waterfall,' and my emotions were so disturbed by something that I couldn't remember the lyrics, so I 'made them up'."
For my father, this was a huge mistake. That night, when I got home, he yelled at me terribly, and I burst into tears. I didn't think he would listen so carefully. My father said, "You're not allowed to treat the songwriter like that. They put their heart and soul into the song, and you do this. The way you sing on stage, the way you treat the song, shows your respect for the songwriter and the song, so you're not allowed to sing the wrong lyrics or change the lyrics."
That story became a lifelong lesson for me. Although it was a very sad story, it's a lesson I'll carry with me throughout my life."
Phuong Vy was once severely scolded by her father for "making up" lyrics when singing.
The singer said that she grew up in a not-so-well-off family and was very well-educated by her parents about professional ethics, so she always cherishes every opportunity to stand on stage: "When I was young, my family was very poor, so I understood early on that I had to work very hard to ensure a livelihood."
Before competing in Vietnam Idol, I sang at venues far from home. My father would painstakingly drive me to sing in the Nha Be area, a suburban region, for a meager fee of only 60-100 thousand dong. But that was a beautiful time for me; it taught me confidence, whether I was performing in front of thousands of people or just a few, I always gave it my all."
The female singer was eliminated from the "Beautiful Women Riding the Waves" program after the third performance round.
Sharing her reasons for participating in the "Beautiful Sisters Riding the Waves" program, Phuong Vy revealed: "If this were a singing competition, I probably wouldn't participate because I've already been through two competitions that showcased my vocal talent."
"Beautiful Sisters Riding the Waves" is a competition that relies not only on singing ability but also on dance and stage presence. Importantly, this isn't an individual competition but a competition between girl groups, which is the main reason I participated.
"In 15 years of singing, I've never had a close friend in showbiz, so I'm participating in this competition hoping to find someone like-minded to be my best friend."
Phuong Vy revealed that, despite her short time on the show, she had found some like-minded friends.
Born in 1987, Phuong Vy won second prize in the "Tuoi Doi Menh Mong" school singing competition and first prize in the Vietnam Idol 2007 competition. She also represented Vietnam in Asian Idol 2007 but did not achieve any significant success.
In 2023, the singer participated in the "Beautiful Sisters Riding the Waves" program but was eliminated in the third performance round.
