There's no need to go all the way to Moc Chau; right in the remote border region of Binh Lieu in Quang Ninh province , visitors can find orchards of pristine, pure white plum blossoms that are breathtakingly beautiful .
Binh Lieu has a cool climate, with temperatures usually 2-3 degrees Celsius lower than Ha Long City. The weather and soil in Binh Lieu are suitable for plum trees to grow, so in just 4 years from a seedling, the plum trees in Mr. Hoang Tien Hanh's garden in Pac Lieng area, Binh Lieu town, have already borne fruit.
During the plum blossom season, for those passionate about travel and exploration, Mr. Hanh's garden is like a hidden fairytale garden, offering wonderful feelings that everyone wants to visit and capture beautiful photos.
The dreamy, pristine white plum orchards are also a reason why tourist groups travel hundreds of kilometers to Binh Lieu: "I am truly impressed with the beauty of this land. Besides the fresh, cool air, the flowers are also a major attraction for tourists visiting Binh Lieu," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, a tourist from Ha Long City.
The plum blossoms are pure white, small and delicate, growing in clusters. When in bloom, the entire tree is covered in white, like snowflakes clinging to mossy branches, creating a pure, gentle, and pristine beauty. Since 2019, many people in Binh Lieu have flocked to the plum orchards in Pac Lieng to take photos. Pictures of graceful Tay girls in indigo-dyed clothing and radiant Dao girls in traditional red attire standing out amidst the plum blossoms have gradually become an invitation for tourists to visit Binh Lieu.
Reportedly, the district currently has 5 orchards that can welcome visitors, located in Binh Lieu town and the communes of Huc Dong, Hoanh Mo, and Dong Van. Mr. Hoang Van Phuc, the owner of a plum orchard in Huc Dong commune, said: "Every year during the plum blossom season, visitors come to visit the orchard and take pictures. My family plans to plant more plum trees and other types of trees such as peach and myrtle so that tourists can visit all year round."
Plum blossoms bloom around February, depending on the weather each year; however, these flowers are also short-lived, lasting only about one to two weeks. To ensure that locals and tourists can visit Binh Lieu in time for the blossom season, many orchard owners have proactively updated the plum blossom blooming schedule on their personal Facebook pages and the district's tourism information website.
Right from the start of his homestay business, Mr. Hoang Van San, the owner of a homestay in Hoanh Mo commune, began planting plum trees on his family's land. This year, his family's more than 100 plum trees have become the busiest tourist attraction in Binh Lieu.
The homestay owner created decorative models for the plum orchard, advertised on Facebook, and contacted members of the Binh Lieu Photography Club to organize a free photo session so that tourists could check in at the plum orchard. Mr. San said: “I want to introduce tourists to a different side of Binh Lieu's beauty. Besides that, this is also a way to promote, introduce, and invite tourists to Binh Lieu in the spring. In the future, I plan to encourage the local people to plant more plum trees to create a larger area.”
Similar to peach trees, plum trees in Binh Lieu are currently being planted spontaneously by locals on a small scale. With more attention, this type of tree promises not only to open up a new economic development direction for the locality but also to add a unique tourism product, increasing the attractiveness of Binh Lieu tourism and giving visitors more reasons to return again and again.
According to Mr. Vi Ngoc Nhat, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Binh Lieu district, in the future, the department will coordinate with specialized departments and businesses to support farmers in renovating existing plum orchards and expanding planting areas in regions with beautiful scenery. Along with that, the district will have a communication and promotional strategy to attract visitors to the orchards.
In summer, there are sim flowers; in autumn, there are ripening rice fields and reeds; in winter, there are the rhododendron flowers; and now, when visiting Binh Lieu in spring, tourists can immerse themselves in the romantic and poetic atmosphere of plum blossoms... Step by step, Binh Lieu is gradually becoming an attractive four-season destination, a four-season flower destination where tourists can explore and find their own unique beauty at any time of the year.
