Catherine Sophie has always wanted to travel to Italy to enjoy the warm summer weather. The girl from Glasgow (Scotland) spent more than 1,700 USD (more than 43 million VND) to take her 3-year-old pet dog with her, South West News Service (SWNS) reported.
Due to the nature of her work, Sophie often had to travel between Glasgow and London (UK). On those occasions, she always brought her dog Teddy along.
“I travel a lot for work and Teddy is a great travel companion,” she told SWNS, adding that she feels extremely lucky because Teddy is so smart and cooperative during those trips.
So when Sophie booked a flight to Rome, Italy, in early April this year, she decided to book an extra seat for Teddy.
After landing in Rome and visiting famous sites like the Vatican and the Colosseum, the couple continued on to Bari and Civitavecchia. Sophie also used the trip to practice her Italian and visit her great-grandfather's grave.
To avoid being turned away from any hotels or motels, Sophie booked a stay on Airbnb. However, this was not the main reason for having to pay such a high fee for a small dog.
Sophie told SWNS it cost her more to fly back because she couldn't find a direct flight that would allow her to take Teddy in the cabin.
The two flew from Rome to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, then took a second flight to Dublin, Ireland. They then took a bus to Belfast, where they took a ferry to Scotland. Sophie's mother picked them up from the ferry terminal and drove them home.
Teddy's travel, pet passport and rabies vaccinations cost $1,743, but Sophie insists taking her dog with her is "worth it."
