Details of the 10th grade entrance exam schedule in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026

The entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year took place on June 1-2, attracting more than 150,000 registered candidates, the highest number in many years.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, in the 2025-2026 school year, the entire city will have 169,602 students graduating from junior high school. Of these, 151,269 students will register to participate in the entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools in the 2026-2027 school year.

The target for admission to 10th grade in public high schools across the city for the 2026-2027 school year is 118,550 students, representing 70% of the total number of 9th grade students.

Candidates take three compulsory subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language. The time allotted for the Literature and Mathematics exams is 120 minutes, and for the Foreign Language exam is 90 minutes.

Candidates applying to specialized or integrated classes will take an additional specialized subject or integrated subject exam on the afternoon of June 2nd. The time allotted for these exams is 150 minutes.

To facilitate this year's 10th grade entrance exam, Ho Chi Minh City has arranged 242 examination centers, including 226 regular centers and 16 specialized centers, with a total of 6,443 examination rooms. More than 17,700 teachers and staff have been mobilized to participate in invigilation, supervision, and support of the exam.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has added five new public high schools to its 10th-grade enrollment system to increase school places for students. These schools include: Phan Van Hon High School (Dong Hung Thuan Ward), Thoai Ngoc Hau High School (Tan Phu Ward), Vo Nguyen Giap High School (Phu My Ward), Ha Huy Tap High School (Di An Ward), and Le Thi Rieng Primary, Secondary, and High School (Thoi An Ward).

According to regulations, the admission score is the sum of the scores from the three exams plus any bonus or incentive points. To be considered for admission, candidates must participate in all required exams and not receive a score of 0 on any exam.

From June 3rd to June 9th, the Department will conduct the grading process, summarize the grading results, and compare the scores. After this period, the Department will announce the exam scores, the cut-off scores, and the plan for supplementary recruitment (if any).

The supplementary admissions process only applies to students who participated in the public high school entrance exam but were not admitted to their registered choices.

In this year's 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City, candidates can register for 3 preferences for regular high schools, 2 preferences for specialized high schools, and 3 preferences for integrated high schools.
