This exam not only assesses students’ abilities and knowledge but also tests their thinking, problem-solving and courage after years of secondary school. The results of the exam will open the door to a new learning environment in high school.

In more than two weeks, Tay Ninh province's secondary school students will take the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025. The exam is a challenging period for them. At this time, stress and study pressure increase significantly due to the large amount of knowledge that needs to be reviewed and the constant fear of failure, which can lead to various psychological manifestations. Students may experience states of anxiety, insecurity, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, etc.

At an age when self-esteem is high and peer influence is high, an unsatisfactory exam result can have a negative impact on a child’s self-confidence. Due to their immature ability to control their emotions, they may have difficulty coping with and overcoming these pressures.

Therefore, understanding, Parents' care, companionship and dedicated support play a key role in helping children stabilize their psychology, confidently enter the exam and achieve the best results within their abilities.

Here are some solutions for parents to reduce stress for their children when exams are coming up:

First, create a solid psychological foundation with parental trust. When children enter the stressful exam preparation period, parental trust plays an extremely important role as a mental support. Anxiety and insecurity from parents can unintentionally create additional psychological burden for children. Therefore, parents should keep a calm mind and believe in the preparation and efforts that their children have put in.

Spend at least 15-30 minutes a day talking privately with your child. Ask about their studies, the difficulties they are facing, their feelings about exams. Really listen and put yourself in their shoes to understand.

Instead of asking a general question like, "How was school today?", parents can ask more specifically, "Are you feeling anxious about any subjects?" When your child shares, show empathy: "We understand you're feeling stressed. This is a difficult time, but we believe you'll get through it."

Sincere words of encouragement not only boost your child's spirit but also strengthen their inner confidence. At the same time, objectively assessing their abilities and avoiding setting expectations that are too high or too low will help them feel more comfortable and focused on the review process.

Second, work with your child to make a scientific study plan. A detailed and reasonable study plan will help your child manage their review time effectively, avoiding cramming or missing important knowledge.

If your child finds it difficult to manage their study time, parents should take the time to sit down with their child to build a specific schedule for each subject, each topic, and at the same time ensure there is enough time for rest and entertainment. After every 45-60 minutes of studying, remind your child to stand up, stretch, relax their eyes or listen to a favorite song.

During the implementation process, parents should regularly monitor their children's progress and be ready to adjust the plan when necessary. Guiding children to prioritize reviewing weak subjects is also a factor to note.

Third, take care of your child's overall health. Physical and mental health is a solid foundation for all activities, especially during stressful study periods.

Parents need to ensure their children are provided with a complete and balanced diet; prepare nutritious meals with a variety of foods; encourage children to eat on time, not skip meals; limit fast food and carbonated drinks.

For example: Breakfast should have enough protein (eggs, milk, meat), carbohydrates (bread, noodles, pho) and vitamins (green vegetables, fruits); lunch and dinner also need to ensure a balance of nutrients.

At the same time, make sure your child gets 7-8 hours of sleep each night; create a quiet, cool sleeping space; encourage your child to go to bed and wake up at a fixed time; limit the use of electronic devices before bed; focus on getting enough sleep to restore energy and enhance memory.

In addition, encouraging children to do light physical exercise every day is also very important to relieve stress. In particular, parents need to pay attention to their children's mental health, listen to their concerns and create conditions for them to have healthy relaxation and entertainment times.

Fourth, avoid creating pressure through imposition. When parents set expectations that are too high or force their children to achieve goals that are not suitable for their abilities, it can have negative impacts on their psychology and motivation to learn.

Instead, respect your child's abilities and interests, and listen to their opinions about their learning goals. It is important to encourage effort and value the learning process rather than focusing on the final result. Absolutely avoid comparing your child with anyone else, because each child has his or her own strengths.

Fifth, create an ideal study space. A comfortable, quiet and fully equipped study space will help your child concentrate better and feel more interested in learning.

Parents should choose a quiet, well-lit study location and help their children arrange their desks neatly and scientifically. Decorating the study corner according to their personal preferences can also create a friendly and inspiring study space.

Please remember…

Expectations for a bright future for their children, a sense of competition ineducation , and the fear of their children failing exams weigh heavily on parents’ psychology. This can manifest itself in stress, irritability in daily communication, sleepless nights due to anxiety, or even a tendency to compare their children with their peers who have outstanding achievements.

In their impatience, some parents may unintentionally interfere too deeply in their children's learning process, strictly controlling the timetable and review content, causing unnecessary conflicts. It is worth mentioning that the stress and anxiety from parents can easily spread, creating unnecessary pressure on children, reducing their self-confidence and possibly causing cracks in family relationships.

Therefore, it is extremely important for parents to stay calm, believe in their children's abilities, create a comfortable environment, listen and support their children appropriately, and take care of their children's mental and physical health. A stable mentality and active support from parents will be a great source of encouragement, helping children to confidently overcome the challenging exam season.
