Pressure before a major turning point.

In May, the atmosphere at high schools across Hanoi is more hectic than ever. The buzzing of cicadas at the start of summer also marks the time when 2008-born students are putting all their effort into the high school graduation exam. This is not just a regular knowledge test, but a milestone that determines career paths and opens the door to the future for each student after 12 years of schooling.

For students born in 2008, pressure is unavoidable as they face certain changes in the exam structure and university admission methods. Expectations from family and teachers, along with the desire to prove themselves, create significant psychological pressure for these young people. Therefore, finding a study plan that is both manageable and effective, transforming pressure into motivation, is of paramount importance right now.

A common mistake many students make during the final stages of exam preparation is cramming, staying up all night hoping to "cram" all the knowledge. However, according to education experts, this method only leads to physical exhaustion and cognitive disorientation. Instead, a smart exam preparation strategy should be based on three pillars: systematizing knowledge, practicing problem-solving skills, and allocating time wisely.

With nearly 20 years of experience in education, Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van - Vice Rector of Thanh Do University - shares her secrets to helping students build a scientific and effective exam preparation strategy: First, students need to proactively map out all the core knowledge. Mastering the fundamentals is more important than getting bogged down in overly challenging math problems or overly academic essays. Practicing mock exams must be done seriously, adhering strictly to the time limit as in a real exam. This not only helps students check their understanding but also trains their reflexes and time management skills for each question.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van, the current high school graduation exam comprehensively assesses students' abilities. Therefore, students need to avoid rote learning and cramming. A smart strategy is to know their strengths and weaknesses so they can compensate for them promptly. "We always guide schools to provide maximum support in terms of knowledge, while also instructing students on self-study and synthesis methods so that they are not overwhelmed by the large amount of knowledge," Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van shared.

Maintain a stable mental state and circadian rhythm.

Besides knowledge, psychological factors account for up to 50% of the chance of winning in an exam. Excessive anxiety can cause the brain to "freeze," leading to regrettable mistakes even on easy questions. To maintain calmness and confidence, students need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Balancing studying and rest is essential. Getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, and dedicating 15-30 minutes each day to light physical activity will help your brain recharge. Don't let yourself become exhausted before the exam bell rings. Confidence only comes from a healthy body and a clear mind.

Ms. Vu Thi Nha, a parent whose child is in 12th grade in Bat Trang commune, expressed her support for her child: "Seeing my child study day and night, any parent feels heartbroken. During this period, my family doesn't put too much pressure on my child regarding grades. I try to provide a nutritious diet, create a quiet environment, and always encourage my child by saying: 'Try your best, no matter the result, your parents will always be proud.' I believe that the calm support of parents will be a strong source of emotional support for their children."

Hanoi has consistently been among the top provinces nationwide in terms of the number of students participating in the high school graduation exam. Upholding and promoting the tradition of studiousness of Thang Long - Dong Do, today's 2008 generation carries within them both great ambitions and a high sense of responsibility. The upcoming exam is a challenge, but viewed positively, it is a great opportunity for them to step out of their comfort zone and affirm their independent spirit. Entering the exam room with a cool head full of knowledge and a passionate heart full of confidence, no obstacle can hinder these students.

In just a few days, the school bell will ring, marking the end of one journey and the beginning of a new one. Hopefully, the 2008 graduating class from Hanoi and across the country will maintain their faith, execute their strategies brilliantly, and enter the exam room with the mindset of masters of their craft, emerging with victorious smiles, worthy of the expectations of their families, schools, and society.
