The severed thumb and forefinger of a police officer were successfully reattached by doctors at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, with the ability to regain mobility.

The surgical team reattached the patient's finger for 6 hours.

On the afternoon of August 19, information from Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital said that the thumb reattachment of Mr. Pham Van Thang, 47 years old, a police officer working at Drug Rehabilitation Center No. 1, Bach Dang Ward ( Hai Phong City) was just successfully performed by the hospital's medical team.

The surgery involved the coordination of many specialized teams from Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital.

During surgery, doctors fix the bone using specialized nails to graft and hold the severed bone; suture and restore damaged tendons, ensuring the finger's ability to move.

Under the microscope, the doctors meticulously sutured the small arteries and veins, restoring blood circulation to the fingers. Reconnecting the nerve bundles to restore sensation and movement. Closing the wound, covering the damaged area to ensure both aesthetics and support good healing...

The patient's fingers were warm and pink after surgery.

The surgery lasted 6 hours. The severed thumb and thumb of the right hand were successfully reattached, the finger turned pink again, had capillary blood, gradually warmed up and was able to recover movement and sensation during the monitoring process. After the surgery, Mr. Thang was conscious, breathing on his own, and his blood pressure was stable.

Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, Head of the Treatment Department at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, said that this is a complicated trauma case, with the injury severing the thumb and forearm of the right hand, and a very high risk of disability.

The successful preservation and reattachment not only requires the coordination of many specialized teams - vascular, orthopedic, microsurgery, neurology and plastic surgery - but also a "race" against time. "After 6 hours of continuous surgery, we were able to restore circulation, movement and sensation to the finger. This is a very positive sign, opening up the opportunity to restore almost normal hand function for the patient," Dr. Thanh shared.

On August 17, comrade Pham Van Thang (officer of the Mobile Police Department of Hai Phong City Police) was on guard duty at Drug Rehabilitation Center No. 1 in Bach Dang Ward when he was slashed in the right hand by Pham Van Truong (born in 1993, residing in Viet Khe Commune, Hai Phong), severing the thumb and forearm of his right hand.

Comrade Thang was promptly taken to the Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment.
