The pristine and captivating beauty of the headwater forest and Na Sang waterfall is truly remarkable.
Traveling over 40km from the center of To Hieu ward to Chieng So commune (formerly Song Ma district), we were greeted by the people of Na Sang village with motorbikes likened to warhorses, expertly conquering the mountain roads. From the paved road to the location of the forest and waterfall at the source is only about 2km, but the narrow road winds along the mountain slopes, following the villagers' fields, requiring a steady hand on the handlebars.

The headwater forest area still has many ancient trees providing shade.

The ancient sấu tree is so big that it would take about five people to encircle it.
Reaching the source of the stream in Na Sang village, the car stopped, and a cool sensation, like a giant natural air conditioner, enveloped us. Above us were the lush green canopies of ancient trees. Around the source area, clear, cool water flowed down from the mountains, overflowing through rocky crevices, running into caves, and then cascading around the tree trunks. Ancient, moss-covered tree trunks, so large that several people would need to encircle them, and tangled vines casting shadows over the stream, created a scene that was both majestic and poetic.

The Na Sang waterfall area has a very beautiful mossy landscape.
United in purpose, we will unlock the tourism potential of the local area.
Today is a special day for Chiềng Sơ commune. After surveying and assessing the potential advantages of its natural beauty and tourism development capabilities, the commune's Party committee, government, and the people of Nà Sặng village are determined to awaken the "mountain maiden" that has been dormant for so long.

Leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province guided local people in clearing waterways to create scenic landscapes.
From early morning, the commune leaders and local people were all present, each with their own task, everyone busy. Under the dedicated guidance of Ms. Le Thi Hong Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province, each group was assigned specific and clear tasks. One group collected fallen leaves and debris accumulated at the headwaters, another cleared the waterway, another cleaned up waste, another cut bamboo and built protective railings along the path to the waterfall, and another made signs to guide tourists…

Local officials and residents are creating a beautiful landscape and clearing the headwaters of the river.

Locals cleared a path and built railings with bamboo and wood to guide the way up to the waterfall.
By morning, the path leading to the waterfall and the headwaters area were much clearer and cleaner. Even in the midday summer sun, the area remained cool, with temperatures hovering around 20 degrees Celsius. The spacious area under the forest canopy was ideal for families or groups to come here for camping, relaxation, and rest.

An ideal space for camping and relaxing.

The temperature is cool and the scenery is picturesque at Na Sang Waterfall.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thu, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Chieng So commune, said that in the coming time, the commune will continue to work closely with the village management board to issue regulations and guidelines, and put up signs to guide tourists to come here to rest, travel, and visit the beautiful scenery; provide guidance and strict regulations on protecting and preserving the natural landscape, preventing forest fires, warning of dangerous areas, improving and expanding the road to the waterfall, and opening shelters and service areas to best serve tourists visiting the area.

A beautiful view of the waterfall.
In particular, the local people will be the ones operating, managing, and directly exploiting the tourist destination once it becomes operational; continuing to protect and improve the landscape, building more unique and safe check-in points, and focusing on improvement without interfering with or destroying the natural beauty of the area.

The vegetation here is still pristine and untouched by human activity.
With unity and determination, it is highly anticipated that Na Sang waterfall in Chieng So commune will become a new and attractive destination for tourists in the near future.
