Significantly improved height compared to the 2024 U.23 Asian Cup
Previously, the issue of physical fitness had become a big problem for the Vietnam U.22 team, especially for the defense. At the final round of the U.23 Asian Cup last year, coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team at that time did not have any central defenders or a tall goalkeeper.
U.22 Vietnam has overcome its own weaknesses compared to 1 year ago.
However, this problem has been somewhat resolved, if looking at the list of the U.22 Vietnam team just announced by coach Kim Sang-sik, preparing for the international four-team tournament in China (from March 20 to 25), meeting the host U.22 China, Korea and Uzbekistan.
In this lineup, U.22 Vietnam has central defender Nguyen Hieu Minh (PVF-CAND Club) and Le Van Ha ( Hanoi FC), both 1.84 m tall. With this height, the above central defenders will be confident in aerial battles as well as one-on-one contests with all opponents. Right below them, goalkeepers Tran Trung Kien (HAGL, 1.91 m) and Cao Van Binh (SLNA, 1.83 m) also have the advantage in height, promising to help the U.22 Vietnam defense control high balls well.
In addition, the fact that the U.22 Vietnam team will be tested against the U.22 teams of China, Uzbekistan and South Korea this March can help coach Kim Sang-sik's team practice their ability to defend high balls. The above teams are all teams with very good aerial combat ability in Asia. Against these opponents, the U.22 Vietnam defenders will gradually get used to situations where the opponent hits high balls into our penalty area, before the U.22 Vietnam center backs and goalkeeper learn how to control these balls.
Will U.22 Vietnam have harmony?
If coach Kim Sang-sik's team can face U.22 Korea and U.22 China in aerial battles, when returning to the Southeast Asian region at the 33rd SEA Games, we will not be afraid of opponents like U.22 Thailand or U.22 Indonesia.
The U.22 Vietnam team has many players with good physique.
Meanwhile, in the front line, Nguyen Van Truong (Hanoi FC, 1.82 m), Nguyen Dinh Bac (Hanoi Police Club, 1.80 m), or Nguyen Ha Anh Tuan (Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 1.80 m) have quite a height. They will help the U.22 Vietnam team not be too inferior in the ability to collide and will have more options in attacking situations, which is attacking with high balls.
Don't forget that the U.22 Vietnam team at SEA Games 33 will also have striker Bui Vi Hao ( Binh Duong , 1.81 m), the most versatile young striker in Vietnamese football at the moment. Vi Hao is currently playing for the national team, but at SEA Games, he will be added to the U.22 Vietnam team. With Vi Hao, we will not be afraid of Southeast Asian opponents at SEA Games 33.
Vietnamese football has been highly regarded in terms of technique compared to the regional football level. If we can improve our stature and add more muscle to our playing style, coach Kim Sang-sik's team will be very harmonious. At that time, U.22 Vietnam will increase its hope of winning back the gold medal in men's football at the Southeast Asian Games later this year.
