To celebrate International Children's Day on June 1st, the Vietnam Film Institute, in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam, is organizing the Vietnam-Sweden Children's Film Week from June 1st to 5th, 2026 at Ngoc Khanh Cinema.
The program screened a total of 14 films, including 3 Swedish children's feature films and 11 Vietnamese animated films. The selected works all have a humanistic theme, are rich in educational value, and stimulate children's imagination.
The opening ceremony took place at 8:30 AM on June 1st with a cultural exchange program, light refreshments, and screenings of two opening films: the animated film "The Fox Gets What He Deserves" by director Le Minh Hien - the first animated film in Vietnam, and the feature film "Pippi Longstocking" by director Olle Hellbom.
In the following days, young audiences will be able to enjoy many Vietnamese animated films such as "The Kitten," "The Talking Magpie," and "The Story of Giong" by Ngo Manh Lan; along with films produced in 2024 such as "The Spoiled Chicken Feather," "Neighbors," and "The Warm Lamp."
Highlights of the film week also include two popular Swedish children's films, "Ronja the Bandit's Daughter" and "The Lion Brothers," adapted from the works of author Astrid Lindgren.
The event aims to introduce young audiences to representative cinematic works from both countries, while also strengthening cultural exchange through the art of film.
Besides film screenings, the program also includes book introductions and quizzes centered around the character Pippi Longstocking, aiming to create a beneficial cultural playground for children.
As part of the event, Kim Dong Publishing House also introduced the Vietnamese edition of the four-volume Pippi comic series and organized a mini-game for children.
