Priority is given to financial support.
According to Mr. Ngo Duc An, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh District, the OCOP program has been implemented in the district since the end of 2018.
To date, the entire district has 31 products that have achieved OCOP 3-4 star standards, with 4 OCOP 3-star products developed in 2024 alone. Among these products, many are local specialties and advantageous products, registered trademarks, with complete traceability information, and improved packaging to meet consumer preferences.
According to Mr. An, to achieve such positive results, along with the attention and support of the province, Nui Thanh district promptly supplemented the tasks of the steering committee for national target programs, established a council to evaluate and classify products, and especially established a working group at the district level to directly guide and support product owners participating in the program.
"The working group works closely with the entities to identify the content that needs to be implemented and the investment needed to build and develop the product. From there, they promptly advise the District People's Committee to provide state funding support so that the entities have more resources to implement the project," Mr. An said.
According to OCOP product producers in Nui Thanh, the government's attention has helped them improve product designs and provided opportunities to invest in modern equipment and machinery for production, thereby increasing sales, revenue, and profits.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu, Director of Hoang Hai Agricultural Cooperative (Tam Quang commune), said that the cooperative was established in 2018 and throughout its development, it has always received timely support, advice, and assistance from the State. Thanks to this, the cooperative has successfully shifted its production structure from integrated livestock farming to high-tech mushroom cultivation, yielding practical results.
According to Mr. Vu, Hoang Hai Agricultural Cooperative received technology transfer from the Quang Nam Department of Science and Technology for growing high-tech mushrooms on substrates consisting of bagged mushroom spawn made from sawdust, coffee grounds, sugarcane, straw, and rotten wood.
This has provided a springboard for the cooperative to build its brand with products made from reishi mushrooms, abalone, wood ear mushrooms, etc., bringing high economic efficiency. In particular, Hoang Hai wood ear mushroom powder achieved OCOP 3-star provincial certification in 2021. In 2020, the cooperative had two products, Hoang Hai reishi tea and Hoang Hai reishi mushrooms, recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as achieving OCOP 3-star certification.
By the end of 2023, Hoang Hai Agricultural Cooperative continued to receive funding to implement the project "Application of advanced machinery and equipment in the production of mushroom products".
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu said that thanks to this support, the cooperative has invested in a medicinal herb grinding machine, a dry powder mixing machine, a granulation machine, and a four-sided packaging machine with expiration date printing. This has helped the unit increase productivity, improve product quality, lower production costs, and increase profits.
Support through various solutions
Over the years, the People's Committee of Nui Thanh District has focused on implementing solutions to support OCOP product producers in developing production and promoting trade to increase sales, revenue, and profits.
In particular, Nui Thanh district prioritizes providing financial support to businesses to upgrade machinery and equipment for production. According to statistics, from 2020 to the present, the district has provided 940 million VND in support to 8 businesses to enable them to purchase various types of machinery and equipment for production...
In 2024 alone, four individual households and businesses received support of 71 million VND each: Tri Tin Thinh Co., Ltd. (Tam Xuan 1 commune) to develop VINACAKE sticky rice cakes; Ho Giang Thom Farm Cooperative (Tam My Tay commune) with herbal dried chicken; Hien Truong sausage business (Tam My Dong commune) with Hien Truong sausages; and Thuy Ha business (Tam Tien commune) with sweet potato puffed rice cakes with vegetables. In addition, Quang Nam Medicinal Herbs Joint Stock Company (Tam Xuan 1 commune) also received 76 million VND from the district for its freeze-dried yogurt product.
The People's Committee of Nui Thanh District continuously organizes events and fairs locally to promote OCOP products. At the same time, it creates opportunities for businesses to participate in numerous exhibitions and fairs in the province and other localities to promote trade and connect with partners for product consumption. In addition, Nui Thanh has established an OCOP product display and sales point in Tam Anh Nam commune.
Mr. Ngo Duc An observed that many rural development policies are currently effective, contributing to promoting and enhancing the value of agricultural products, developing markets, and maximizing the existing advantages of the locality. This creates favorable conditions for accelerating the OCOP program and increasing the quantity and quality of products.
“In the coming time, we will focus on overcoming the limitations of many entities not continuing to participate in the OCOP product ranking process. We will continue to implement the agricultural sector restructuring project associated with building new rural areas and applying scientific and technological advancements to the production of deeply processed agricultural and aquatic products. We will invest in the synchronized development of infrastructure serving production to create leverage to support rural economic development, helping entities easily develop OCOP products…” - said Mr. Ngo Duc An.
