Traffic jam
Sitting on the porch to rest amidst the blaring of car horns, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu in Luu Thuong 1 residential group, Kinh Mon ward still vividly remembers the nights when she was startled by the sound of trucks. "That was in mid-2021, Dinh bridge had just been inaugurated, trucks and container trucks started running back and forth in front of my house. The road was already small, now it was even more congested, not to mention that every hour after work, workers from the company opposite poured out onto the street, the whole neighborhood was packed with people," Ms. Lieu said.
Not only Mrs. Lieu, hundreds of households living along Highway 17B in Luu Thuong 1 and Luu Thuong 2 residential groups all feel the scene of hundreds of trucks and containers rumbling past every day. Houses are always covered with thick dust, sometimes the teacup is put down before you can drink it, it is already covered with dust. Large vehicles run close to the house walls, shaking violently, many times in the middle of the night they are startled awake.

In fact, to go from National Highway 5 to Thuy Nguyen Ward, Dinh Bridge is still the most optimal route. Therefore, traffic pressure is increasingly heavy. Mr. Tran Van Hai in Phu Thai Commune, who often has to travel to the Political - Administrative Center of Hai Phong City, shared that Dinh Bridge is the shortest route, but it has to go through the market and a crowded residential area. During rush hour, all you want to do is turn around. Many days, motorbikes weave and cars move slowly, everyone is impatient.
According to the leader of Kinh Mon ward, the traffic point under the most pressure is the intersection in front of Hiep An gas station, especially the turn to Thanh Nien street towards Dinh bridge. Every day, hundreds of trucks and container trucks pass by, and at rush hour, the flow of people from industrial parks is even more potential for traffic safety risks.
Expected
In that context, the groundbreaking of the road connecting National Highway 17B with Dinh Bridge on August 19 is likened to “opening a path” for the entire region. The road not only helps shorten the distance from National Highway 5 and National Highway 17B to the Political and Administrative Center of Hai Phong City, but also significantly reduces traffic pressure on the existing route, which has been overloaded for many years.

The project is invested by the West Hai Phong Construction Investment Project Management Board with a total cost of 248 billion VND. According to the design, the project is 3.09 km long, starting at the intersection with National Highway 17B, and ending at the Dinh Bridge approach road in Nguyen Dai Nang Ward. The route meets main street standards, with a 15 m wide road surface, a design speed of 50 km/h, and a synchronous drainage system, lighting, intersections, signals, and traffic safety organization.
People in communes and wards are looking forward to the day the project is completed, especially households living along National Highway 17B at Hiep An intersection, where traffic pressure has long been the greatest.

Not only solving the traffic problem, the new route also contributes to gradually improving the regional infrastructure, ensuring safety, expanding urban development space, creating attraction for investment and services. With this strategic connection, many industrial parks, residential areas, and commercial services will be more convenient in regional connectivity. This is also the foundation for localities to exploit location advantages, attracting more resources for sustainable development.
