Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, many people want to choose to buy their favorite moon cakes to enjoy at home to create the atmosphere of family reunion. Many people wonder whether it is best to store moon cakes at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Mr. Phuong Trien Phong (44 years old), owner of a famous mooncake shop in Cho Lon area that has been around for nearly 40 years, said that mooncakes that do not use preservatives like those in his shop have a shelf life of 25 - 30 days depending on the type of filling.

Mooncakes are best kept at room temperature.

After being baked, the cakes are carefully packaged and kept at room temperature before being delivered to customers. That is why the shop owner said that when buying cakes to bring home, customers should keep the cakes at room temperature. In addition, the cakes should be eaten as soon as possible, within the expiration date printed on the packaging.

“Putting moon cakes in the refrigerator not only does not extend the shelf life of the cake, but sometimes it also affects the quality of the cake. If you store the cake in the refrigerator, when you take it out, you should re-bake it and use it all up. You should not put it back in the refrigerator because at this point the cake will not be as good as before," the owner said.

Mr. Phong added that besides choosing the right type of cake, to your liking and of good quality, preserving the cake properly is also an important factor for you to enjoy a moon cake with its full and original flavor.
