Cuban National Assembly Chairman visits and works in Quang Binh

President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez visited and worked at the Vietnam-Cuba Dong Hoi Hospital

Accompanying the delegation were Party Central Committee member, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education Nguyen Dac Vinh; and senior leaders of central departments, ministries and branches of Cuba and Vietnam.

50 years ago, from September 12 to 17, 1973, Quang Binh province was honored to welcome Cuban leader Fidel Castro to visit. This was the first and only visit of a foreign leader to the liberated zone of South Vietnam. The visit became a historical milestone and a typical symbol of the brotherly relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, affirming the solidarity in the same trenches and the strong support and assistance of the Cuban Government and People for the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against the US to save the country and to build the country after the war.

Also during this visit, Cuban leader Fidel Castro had a talk with the Party Committee and People of Quang Binh and decided to help Quang Binh province re-plan Dong Hoi town and build the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital to serve the health care of local people and soldiers from the southern battlefield.

Quang Binh Provincial Party Secretary Vu Dai Thang affirmed that this is a precious gift that the Party, State and People of Cuba have given to Quang Binh province. The Party Committee, Government and People of Quang Binh province will forever cherish and remember the noble sentiments, selfless, pure and fraternal assistance that Cuba, headed by Leader Fidel Castro, has given to Quang Binh and the liberated areas of South Vietnam during the most difficult and fierce times.

“To preserve and promote those precious feelings, in recent times, Quang Binh province has focused on strengthening cooperation with Cuba. Notably, within the framework of the visit and working session of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to Cuba at the end of April 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cuba on cooperation in the field of health; signed a Letter of Intent on establishing friendly and cooperative relations with Santiago de Cuba province,” the Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee shared.

At the meeting, President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez shared memories of the special affection of the Vietnamese people and beloved President Ho Chi Minh for the Cuban people and President Fidel Castro.

As for Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez, from 1996 to now, he has visited Vietnam 4 times. Each time he visits Vietnam, he is very happy to witness the strong changes of the brotherly country of Vietnam.

The President of the National Assembly of the People's Power and the Council of State of Cuba affirmed that this return to Vietnam coincides with the two countries' celebration of the 50th anniversary of the visit of Leader Fidel Castro to the liberated zone of South Vietnam. This is an extremely meaningful historical milestone, affirming the solidarity and closeness between the two nations. Cuba will, together with Vietnam, continue to promote the tradition of solidarity and closeness, and strengthen the education of the younger generation about the invaluable relationship between the two nations to work together to preserve and develop it.

Giving gifts to sick children

In an intimate atmosphere, the delegates shared sincere stories - they were witnesses - those who had met and interacted with Leader Fidel Castro when he visited the liberated areas of South Vietnam; as well as Vietnamese people who love and have special feelings for President Fidel Castro and the brotherly country of Cuba.

On this occasion, President of the National Assembly, People's Government and Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez and members of the delegation laid flowers at the statue of Cuban President Fidel Castro in the grounds of the Vietnam-Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital; visited and encouraged patients being treated at the hospital.
