Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang repeated his miracle by winning the first Asian gold medal for Vietnamese swimming.

This is the first Asian gold medal in his career, opening a memorable milestone for Vietnamese swimming in regional and international arenas.

In the final match on the evening of September 29, Nguyen Huy Hoang had to compete with many strong opponents such as Ilya Sibirtsev (Uzbekistan), Kushagra Rawat (India), Hinata Ando (Japan) and Lev Cherepanov (Kazakhstan).

With excellent performance, the "Gianh River otter" accelerated spectacularly, finishing first with a time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01. This achievement not only helped him bring home the prestigious gold medal but was also Hoang's best result in the past year.

Previously, Nguyen Huy Hoang's highest achievement in the Asian arena was only the silver medal at the 2018 ASIAD. Winning the continental gold medal for the first time proved the 25-year-old swimmer's perseverance and relentless efforts throughout his training.

Nguyen Huy Hoang's time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01 is superior to the results at the 2024 Paris Olympics (15 minutes 18 seconds 63) and the 2025 World Championship (15 minutes 19 seconds 39). Although he has not reached the national record he currently holds (14 minutes 41 seconds), this performance still affirms Hoang's strong revival after a challenging competition period.

Notably, at the most recent Asian championship in 2016, legendary swimmer Park Tae-hwan (Korea) won the gold medal in the 1,500m distance with a time of 15 minutes 07 seconds 86. Although Hoang's result this time did not surpass Park, it helped Vietnamese swimming affirm its position and approach the top group of the continent.

The historic victory in India is not only a personal achievement for Nguyen Huy Hoang but also a great source of pride for the country's sports . The first gold medal at the Asian Championship will be a strong motivation for Vietnam's number 1 swimmer to continue conquering new heights, aiming for the Olympics and world tournaments.
