In the opening match of the SEA Games, which took place on the evening of December 3, U.23 Thailand defeated U.23 East Timor 6-1. Striker Yotsakorn Burapha, who played the highest on the attack, scored a hat-trick in the 45th, 71st and 74th minutes. The remaining three goals of U.23 Thailand in this match were scored by Siraphop Wandee (minute 48), Iklas Sanron (minute 59) and Kakana Khamyok (minute 83). It was not until the 90+4th minute that Palamito scored an honorary goal for U.23 East Timor with an accurate header.
Immediately after the match ended, Madam Pang was present at Rajamangala Stadium to encourage the players and coaching staff of Thailand U.23. At the same time, the FAT President also gave Thailand U.23 a bonus of 500,000 baht (more than 413 million VND).

U.23 Thailand was lucky not to concede a goal in the first half of the match against East Timor.
With a 6-1 victory over U.23 East Timor, U.23 Thailand has 3 points and a goal difference of +5, rising to the top of Group A. However, Thai media assessed that the performance of coach Thawatchai and his team was still not convincing, especially when in the first half they let U.23 East Timor play an open game and even almost conceded the first goal.
When asked about the performance in the first half, coach Thawatchai said surprisingly: “We have faced East Timor many times and can confirm that they have improved very quickly. In particular, the first half of today's match was really difficult for U.23 Thailand. U.23 East Timor made us afraid many times when they were ready to attack and play fair with U.23 Thailand. I have to admit that U.23 Thailand was very lucky not to concede a goal in this half.”
"U.23 Thailand needs to consider rotating the squad. However, U.23 Thailand cannot be complacent because our immediate opponent is U.23 Singapore - a team stronger than U.23 East Timor," coach Thawatchai added.

Before the match between U.23 Thailand and U.23 East Timor, a fan group called "Ultras Thailand" announced their decision to boycott the 33rd SEA Games to protest the organizers' regulations on tickets and the requirement to register personal information. Therefore, according to the organizers' statistics, only 7,741 people came to watch the match live on the evening of December 3, which is less than 1/7 of the actual capacity of Rajamangala Stadium.
Facing the "desolate" atmosphere of the stands despite the presence of U.23 Thailand, Coach Thawatchai expressed: "I sincerely thank you for being present at the stadium today. I hope that in the upcoming matches, the number of fans will be able to increase. U.23 Thailand understands that every time they go on the field, the goal is not only to get 3 points but also to satisfy the fans. We want to win in the most beautiful way possible."
