National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue holds talks with Thai National Assembly Chairman

President of the Thai National Assembly Wan Muhamad Noor Matha warmly welcomed and highly appreciated the significance of the first official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. The visit took place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam - Thailand Strategic Partnership (2013-2023), creating momentum to develop the friendship and Strategic Partnership, including parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, increasingly deeper and more substantive. The President of the Thai National Assembly congratulated Vietnam on its important achievements in socio -economic development and high economic growth; affirming that Vietnam is an important partner of Thailand in the region.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his pleasure at the official visit to Thailand; thanked the Thai side for arranging a comprehensive working program and giving the delegation a warm and thoughtful welcome. National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue respectfully conveyed to the Speaker of the Thai National Assembly the warm regards of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of Vietnam; congratulated Mr. Wan Muhamad Noor Matha on his election to the position of Speaker of the Thai National Assembly and House of Representatives; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further strengthen the Vietnam - Thailand Strategic Partnership.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the strong development of the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership in all areas, from politics, security, defense, to economics, trade, investment, tourism, transportation, education and training, and culture. Notably, within ASEAN, Thailand continues to be the largest trading partner (with two-way turnover in 2022 reaching a record of nearly 22 billion USD) and the second largest investor in Vietnam (about 14 billion USD).

The two leaders agreed on major directions to further promote the role of the two legislative bodies in enhancing trust, facilitating and promoting cooperation in all fields between the two countries; promoting the exchange of delegations, high-level contacts and all-level contacts, through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people exchanges; effectively implementing cooperation mechanisms, actively realizing the Action Program to implement the Enhanced Strategic Partnership for the period 2022 - 2027. The two sides agreed to strive to soon bring the two-way trade turnover to 25 billion USD and towards a more balanced direction, facilitating and reducing trade barriers; creating a favorable environment for businesses of the two countries to expand investment and business.

The President of the Thai National Assembly agreed with the President of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue that the two sides should closely coordinate and create a favorable legal corridor to promote the successful implementation of the "Three Connectivity" Strategy, including connecting and forming new supply chains to create high value-added products such as agricultural products, contributing to ensuring food security in the region; connecting businesses and localities of the two countries, enhancing transport connectivity, cooperating in effective and safe digital economic transformation, and building a green economy. The President of the Thai National Assembly also suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation in global areas such as climate change response, environmental protection, healthcare and disease prevention, etc.

The two sides also pledged to promote cooperation in other important areas such as defense, security, maritime cooperation; enhance cooperation in education - training, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchange; promote Thai and Vietnamese language teaching programs in each country; develop tourism connections "two countries, one destination". National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue highly appreciated Thailand's support for the construction of Vietnam Street and the establishment of a Vietnam Studies Center in Udon Thani province; and hoped that Thailand would continue to support and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community, the activities of Vietnamese associations, as well as the preservation and promotion of President Ho Chi Minh relic sites in Thailand.

Within the framework of cooperation between the two National Assemblies, the two leaders agreed to increase delegation exchanges and exchange activities through the channels of Friendship Parliamentarians, Female Parliamentarians, and Young Parliamentarians; organize activities to exchange experiences in law-making; consult and support each other at multilateral inter-parliamentary forums; and promote the function of supervising the implementation of bilateral cooperation agreements and treaties signed between the two countries.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two leaders affirmed to continue to strengthen consultation and close coordination between the two countries at regional and international forums; promote solidarity and ASEAN's central role in regional issues; coordinate in the management and sustainable use of Mekong River water resources; and reaffirm the importance of maintaining solidarity and ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue.

Based on the close relationship and achievements in cooperation, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the two sides need to make efforts to upgrade the relationship in the coming time. On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue respectfully invited the Speaker of the Thai National Assembly to visit Vietnam at a suitable time. The Speaker of the Thai National Assembly happily accepted the invitation.

At the end of the talks, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and National Assembly Chairman and Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Wan Muhamad Noor Matha signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand.

The two National Assembly Leaders also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Office of the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Secretariat of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand by the Secretaries General of the National Assembly of the two countries.

On this occasion, in the grounds of the Thai Parliament House, National Assembly President Vuong Dinh Hue and the President of the Thai Parliament planted two red-budded banyan trees that National Assembly President Vuong Dinh Hue brought from Vietnam to present to the Thai Parliament. As a tree with strong vitality, the two red-budded banyan trees planted in the grounds of the Thai Parliament House symbolize the longevity of the relationship between the Vietnamese and Thai Parliaments as well as the relationship between the two countries.
