Prepare documents to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration of declaring the end of the COVID-19 epidemic

The Ministry of Health was assigned to prepare documents on changing the classification of COVID-19 from group A infectious disease to group B and declaring the end of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Government Office has issued Official Dispatch No. 3575 to Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan on COVID-19 prevention and control in the new situation.

Accordingly, the dispatch stated that, considering report No. 626/BC-BYT dated May 13, 2023 of the Ministry of Health on COVID-19 prevention and control in the new situation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to prepare documents in accordance with the provisions of the 2007 Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases on changing the disease classification from group A infectious diseases to group B infectious diseases and declaring the end of the COVID-19 epidemic, to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.

Agree to the consolidation of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control as proposed by the Ministry of Health in the above report; assign the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to prepare documents and submit them to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision; the Ministry of Health to prepare content and programs and coordinate with the Government Office to organize a meeting of the National Steering Committee on May 27, 2023 to announce the end of the Steering Committee's tasks.

The Ministry of Health, based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the actual situation of the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam, develops a Plan for sustainable control and management of the COVID-19 epidemic for the period 2023 - 2025, promulgates it according to its authority, and in cases beyond its authority, reports to competent authorities for consideration and decision.

Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) also affirmed that COVID-19 is no longer a global emergency, but all countries need to learn how to respond to this epidemic, as well as other epidemics.

According to the WHO representative in Vietnam, our country needs to continue to closely monitor and supervise medical facilities to ensure that medical facilities and staff are not overloaded.

In addition, WHO also made recommendations on COVID-19 prevention and control in countries, focusing on maintaining achievements, ensuring coverage of booster doses and especially continuously updating solutions to minimize the impact of the epidemic.
