After the first years of strong implementation, the program has made its mark with 27,670 orphans and children in difficult circumstances being sponsored in the first 2 years with a total resource of nearly 150 billion VND. The results of the 3-year review in many localities show that the program continues to expand and bring practical results.
For example, in Tien Giang , from 2021 to now, 1,570 children have been sponsored, of which 1,357 are orphans due to COVID-19 and other circumstances. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, 517 children have been supported, with a budget of over 350 million VND, more than 8 billion VND since the beginning of the program. The program has additional activities to build loving homes, give away learning and living supplies, and sponsor school admission, demonstrating a long-term commitment to each child, according to the Vietnam Women's Union.
In Long Bien district, Hanoi , in the period of 2021 - 2024, 143 orphans were screened; in 2022, 48 children were supported (over 335 million VND); in 2023, 61 children were supported (433 million VND); in 2024, 25 new children were supported, 16 old children were maintained with a total of 150 million VND... In Thanh Thuy, Phu Tho, after 3 years of implementation, the program has sponsored 18 children with a total resource of more than 500 million VND. In addition, many provinces such as Yen Bai, Nghe An, Khanh Hoa also actively participated, connecting with more benefactors and individuals to sponsor hundreds of children...
The reason why the "Godmother" Program has become a bright spot of humanity nationwide is because the program has been supported and participated in by many departments, individuals, and organizations, such as the Border Guard force in many localities.
In October 2022, the Women's Union of the Border Guards of Son La province organized a ceremony to adopt an orphan of the Kho Mu ethnic group in the form of "Godmother". The adopted child was born in 2016 and is an orphan of both parents.
According to Ms. To Thi Tam, President of the Dak Lak Provincial Women's Union, after more than 3 years of implementation, the "Godmother" program has spread widely, attracting the attention of all levels, sectors, units, organizations and individuals accompanying the Women's Union.
Do Tran Gia H (Hung Vuong Secondary School, Ea Kar District, Dak Lak) is an orphan, living with his old, weak and sick grandmother. Gia H was adopted by the Ea Kar District Military Command. "The District Military Command is not only a sponsor who supports me in going to school, but also like a father and mother who always follow and encourage me on my journey in life," H confided.
Recently, at the Conference "Commending typical advanced women in the Border Guard for the period 2020 - 2025" organized by the Border Guard Command, Lieutenant General Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee, Political Commissar of the Border Guard, especially emphasized the "Godmother" program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, which is being implemented by the Border Guard Women of the provinces and units with all the heart and soul of a mother.
"I hope these meaningful and deeply humane programs will spread more and more widely to officers and soldiers in the entire force," said Lieutenant General Nguyen Anh Tuan. Along with this appeal, the Political Commissar of the Border Guard said that he will contribute his salary of 2 million VND/month, joining hands with the Dak Lak Provincial Border Guard Women to carry out the "Godmother" charity program.
