Digital transformation to improve the efficiency of border gate management.

(GLO) - In recent years, the Le Thanh International Border Gate Border Guard Station has intensified the implementation of electronic border control procedures in immigration and export/import activities to increase efficiency in border gate management.

Currently, at the Le Thanh International Border Gate Control Station, an average of 12,500 people complete immigration procedures each month, and the volume of goods imported and exported through the border gate exceeds 52,200 tons.

Captain Nguyen Trong Thien, Deputy Head of the Le Thanh International Border Gate Control Station, said: The majority of people entering and exiting the country are residents living near the border area between Gia Lai and Ratanakiri provinces, and workers from Vietnamese businesses implementing industrial crop projects in Cambodia. Entry and exit documents are mainly passports and border passes.

For export cargo transportation, mainly companies in Gia Lai province transport consumer goods, fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, and electricity; imports mainly consist of seasonal agricultural products such as cassava chips, raw cashews, peanuts, soybeans, bananas, and mangoes.

In recent times, to improve the efficiency of border gate management and create favorable conditions for businesses and people on both sides of the border to cross easily, the Le Thanh International Border Gate Border Guard Station has actively implemented electronic border control procedures and applied information technology to handling administrative procedures.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Nhu Kien, Commander of the Le Thanh International Border Gate Border Guard Station, informed: "In recent years, the unit has received investment in equipment for border control, including a computer system, passport checker, passport reader, visa printer, and other specialized equipment to serve border control work."

Furthermore, to meet the demands of the new situation, the unit has actively pursued digital transformation, reformed administrative procedures, applied information technology, and especially provided training to improve the professional, technical, and operational skills of officers directly working at border gates. This has enabled them to proficiently use and effectively utilize equipment in border control.

Furthermore, to meet the requirements of border gate management and border protection in the new situation and to keep pace with the digitalization trend, the Le Thanh International Border Gate Border Guard Station is promoting the implementation of administrative procedure reforms towards synchronous connection with the national border gate system so that people and businesses can declare and receive results of administrative procedures through the National Electronic Information Portal, eliminating the need for paper-based processing.
At that time, except for some specific procedures, citizens and businesses could make declarations and receive results from any location with internet access, shortening the processing time for immigration and import/export procedures for people, vehicles, and goods.

“To ensure the successful completion of assigned tasks, in the coming time, the unit will actively coordinate with relevant agencies to survey infrastructure to move towards building an automated border gate system, including machinery, surveillance cameras for license plate recognition, and an automated system for fingerprint and image verification. This will simplify administrative procedures and shorten the processing time for passengers from 5 minutes to 1 minute, and reduce the time for import and export procedures for goods from 5 minutes to 2 minutes,” added the Commander of the Le Thanh International Border Gate Border Guard Station.

The application of information technology has proven effective in managing immigration and import/export activities at the Le Thanh International Border Gate. Therefore, successfully implementing digital transformation to streamline administrative procedures and building a "smart border gate" will further enhance the efficiency of border gate management and shorten processing times for passengers.

Furthermore, storing data and images of passengers serves operational purposes and enhances the effectiveness of combating and preventing criminal activities and violations of the law at border gates. Simultaneously, it facilitates exchange and coordination between various sectors, localities, functional units, and border protection forces on both sides to maintain border gate traffic flow, creating the most favorable conditions for the people and businesses, and promoting socio-economic development.
