Expert Park Chung-gun invited to renew contract, Vietnamese shooting receives Olympic target

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên20/10/2023

The success of the Vietnamese shooting team over the past decade has been marked by coach Park Chung-gun. The Korean expert has been involved with Vietnamese shooting since 2006 and officially became an expert of the national shooting team since 2015.

Together with head coach Nguyen Thi Nhung, Mr. Park Chung-gun contributed greatly to the 2016 Rio Olympics gold medal and 1 silver medal at the world championship of shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, the gold medal of Pham Quang Huy at the 19th ASIAD and the ticket to the 2024 Olympics of shooter Trinh Thu Vinh.

However, the sad thing is that at the ceremony honoring the Vietnamese shooting team on the afternoon of October 18, Mr. Park Chung-gun was treated coldly by the Vietnam Shooting Federation, not receiving even a word of thanks or a bouquet of flowers in gratitude for his persistent dedication and contributions.

Expert Park Chung-gun is asked to continue working with Vietnamese shooting

This has raised concerns that Mr. Park Chung-gun will not be associated with Vietnamese shooting after the contract between the two sides expires this October. However, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has directed the Department of Sports and Physical Training to carry out procedures to continue signing a new contract with Coach Park Chung-gun, continuing to be associated with the Korean expert.

In addition, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung directed the Department of Sports and Physical Training to organize a conference to summarize the 19th ASIAD and orient the next major games, first of all the 20th ASIAD (held in 2026), the 2024 Olympics, the 2028 Olympics, etc.

At the summary conference, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will award experts, coaches and athletes who achieved achievements at the 19th ASIAD.

Previously, the Department of Sports and Physical Training sent a dispatch to the Vietnam Shooting Federation and the Hanoi National Sports Training Center regarding hiring Korean experts to train the national shooting team for the 2024 Olympics.

"Implementing the direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on continuing to hire Korean experts to train the national shooting team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Department of Sports and Physical Training continues to assign tasks to experts and coaches to develop a plan to have 1-2 or more athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics and strive to win medals at this event," the document stated.

Thus, it is likely that Mr. Park Chung-gun will continue to be associated with the Vietnamese shooting team, supporting Trinh Thu Vinh to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics in 9 months.

Sharing on his personal page on October 20, expert Park Chung-gun wrote: "From the bottom of my heart, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Vietnamese fans, journalists and dear friends who have always supported me over the years. You have given me more reasons to realize that there are always good things to believe in, no matter what happens. Love you all."
