Electric motorbikes are becoming a means of transport that has attracted the attention of many Vietnamese people recently. Especially when some big cities such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City are planning and encouraging people to use this type of vehicle, as part of the strategy to limit air pollution and protect the urban environment.
However, compared to gasoline vehicles, electric motorbikes are still a fairly new type of vehicle, and there are certain differences in structure and usage; forcing drivers to get used to them to ensure safety when driving.
Battery capacity and charging time
The biggest difference between electric motorbikes and gasoline motorbikes lies in the engine equipment. While gasoline motorbikes use internal combustion engines, operating on energy from burning fossil fuels (mainly gasoline); on the contrary, electric motorbikes use electric motors, operating on electricity integrated in the battery or accompanying storage battery.
Because of this additional battery, electric motorbike users need to pay attention to the battery capacity and calculate the charging time to ensure effective use. Because unlike gasoline vehicles (which are convenient thanks to the dense fuel station system and are present in all regions, the time for each refueling is also very quick); electric motorbike users will have to spend more time charging the vehicle.
Currently, on popular electric motorbikes, the time for each full battery charge usually lasts from 4 to 10 hours, depending on the battery level of the vehicle or the battery technology of each brand. Therefore, the first thing to change when switching to using an electric motorbike is the habit of monitoring the battery and calculating a reasonable charging time. Normally, the most ideal time to charge the vehicle is in the evening, before going to bed.
Driving skills
In addition to paying attention to the battery and how to calculate charging time, driving skills are also something users need to equip themselves with when switching from a gasoline motorbike to an electric motorbike. The reason is because the electric motor can reach maximum torque and power instantly, with almost no delay like on a gasoline motorbike. Therefore, the sensitivity and acceleration of an electric motorbike are much superior.
To ensure safety, drivers need to be careful and "slow" when pulling the throttle, especially when the vehicle starts; avoid being startled and losing control when the vehicle suddenly jumps up and rushes forward.
How to use brakes
Another thing to note when driving an electric motorbike is how to squeeze the brake. Currently, most electric motorbikes distributed in Vietnam are equipped with electronic brakes, with switches and sensors to turn off the electric motor in case the driver squeezes the brake; even when the brake force is very light.
According to many experts, this is a safety mechanism on electric vehicles, to reduce the speed of the vehicle safely. Because if the motor is still running when the driver applies the brake, the speed reduction will be very poor. At this time, the braking distance will be longer and the vehicle may lose control. Meanwhile, for conventional gasoline motorbikes, the driver can completely apply the throttle lightly combined with applying the brake to control the speed reduction as desired. The vehicle does not have an automatic cut-off or engine shutdown mechanism.
Therefore, a note for electric motorbike users is that when squeezing the brake, you need to reduce the throttle completely, avoid holding the throttle. Because the pulling force from the electric motor is very sensitive and instantaneous, when holding the throttle and releasing the brake, the vehicle will rush forward, causing the driver to be startled and lose control.
How to make electric cars more durable?
In addition to driving skills to ensure safety, electric motorbike users also need to learn more tips for using the vehicle properly, to help their "baby" prolong its life and operate more stably.
For example, how to charge the battery properly? According to experts and technicians, to ensure the battery is durable and does not explode or become damaged, users should only charge it when it has used up more than 50% of its capacity. In particular, the battery should not be charged immediately after the vehicle has stopped operating. Instead, wait about 30 minutes, when the engine system and battery have cooled down, before charging.
Or how to choose the mode when moving. For the engine to operate durably, the driver should maintain a stable speed, not driving too fast or too slow. At the same time, limit the "jerk" style.
In addition, many electric motorbikes today are equipped with driving mode options (usually 2 modes Eco and Sport), each mode will be suitable for each operating condition. Users need to learn the differences between these modes to know how to customize accordingly.
