The Senegalese winger is only 19 but scored eight goals in just 15 Serie A games last season. Having joined from Real Betis in January, Diao quickly settled into Cesc Fabregas’s side and has become a key part of the Lombardy club’s ambitious project – which saw them spend €100m this summer.
Such impressive form has prompted many English teams to jump in. Nottingham Forest once sent an offer of 45 million euros but was rejected by Como. Recently, Everton made an offer, but the Italian team immediately "closed the door", declaring that they would not negotiate if the price was below 75 million euros.
Real Betis, Diao's former club, are watching the situation with particular interest. The Spanish club still holds a 20% interest in the deal. If Como sells Diao for €75m, Betis will receive an additional €15m, bringing the total revenue from the deal to €27m - more than double the amount they paid for him half a year ago.
