Responding to the initiative of the President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly - Ambassador Philemon Yang, on August 1, 2025, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

This online event featured speeches from the President of the General Assembly Philemon Yang, the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, and most of the heads of state and government of the UN member countries.

In his message, President Luong Cuong affirmed that, over the past 80 years, the United Nations has ignited faith and hope for lasting peace and sustainable development for all nations and peoples, demonstrating the importance and vitality of multilateralism and affirming its irreplaceable role in realizing humanity's aspirations for a better world built on the foundation of universal values – namely national independence, national sovereignty, justice, and social progress.

The President stated that, in the context of increasingly complex and unpredictable international and regional situations, and with the world facing fundamental changes of the era, countries need to strive to support multilateralism, strengthen international cooperation and solidarity, abide by international law and the United Nations Charter, especially the principles of respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, refraining from the use of force or the threat of force, and resolving disputes through peaceful means.

The President stated that this is the time for the United Nations to undergo significant reforms to better adapt to the new context and enhance its effectiveness and efficiency in fulfilling its missions.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam will continue to be a reliable partner, an active and responsible member, accompanying the United Nations and the international community in resolving difficulties, overcoming challenges, promoting peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development in each country, region and the whole world, bringing happiness and prosperity to all people.

Messages from President Luong Cuong and the Heads of State and Government of United Nations member states will continue to be shown at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, from now until the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
