Long An FC nearly disbanded before the First Division season last year due to financial and personnel difficulties. However, thanks to financial support from a bank and player support from Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC, Long An FC was able to register for the 2024-2025 First Division season.
At the end of the season, Coach Trinh Duy Quang's team finished 8th out of 11 teams, with 18 points after 20 matches. However, whether Long An Club will participate in the upcoming 2025-2026 First Division League and how it will change its name still depends on the decision of the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tay Ninh province after the merger of Long An and Tay Ninh provinces.
For now, after the season ended, the U21 Hoang Anh Gia Lai players and the entire coaching staff have returned to the mountainous region. Long An Club currently only has 3-4 players left. The question of where to find the personnel and funding to operate and compete in the 2025-2026 First Division League remains a difficult one.
"We are waiting for the leadership to be established after the merger is complete and the system is stabilized before discussing football. In particular, we will focus on preparing the team and finding sponsors."
"We've heard rumors about Long An Club changing its name to Tay Ninh, but it's still unofficial information," a former member of the team shared.
Currently, the Long An U21 team has been renamed the Tay Ninh U21 team to compete in the qualifying round of the 2025 National U21 Championship, which starts on July 4th. The Tay Ninh U21 team is in Group E (hosted by Ba Ria - Vung Tau) along with Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Hoang Anh Gia Lai II, and Ho Chi Minh City Football Club.
Meanwhile, the former Tay Ninh province has Tay Ninh Club, which is competing in the second division. In the 2025 Second Division League, Tay Ninh Club finished last in Group B with 11 points after 14 matches.
