On May 31st, leaders of the Tri An Ward People's Committee, Dong Nai City, confirmed that fish raised in cages on Tri An Lake had died en masse, causing significant losses.
According to local residents, after the first rains of the season, on May 30th, fish in the fish cages (Vinh An 1 neighborhood, Tri An ward) began to float to the surface, belly up, and then die.
Locals organized efforts to remove dead fish and provide oxygen, but to no avail. "The fish died very quickly; hundreds of tons died overnight," said Nhuận Quý, a fish farmer.
According to reports, the dead fish were mainly grass carp, common carp, tilapia, red-tailed catfish, red snapper, giant catfish, koi carp, etc., of various sizes.
Some grass carp even weigh up to 12kg, causing significant losses for fish farmers.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Tri An ward authorities mobilized specialized departments, military forces, local security forces, neighborhood committees, and forest rangers from the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve to assist residents in collecting the dead fish and bringing them ashore to protect the lake environment.

Locals are scrambling to sell off the freshly dead fish to salvage what they can, while most of the rotting dead fish are bought up for use as bio-fertilizer at a cheap price.
According to initial statistics, approximately 16 households reported dead fish, totaling 150 tons, resulting in losses equivalent to 6 billion VND. However, this number is likely to continue to rise.
According to authorities, the initial cause may be due to the impact of unusual weather and prolonged heavy rain, which reduced the oxygen level in the water. Meanwhile, the high density of farmed fish led to oxygen deficiency and mass fish deaths.

Regarding the specific cause, the local authorities have reported the matter to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City, which has sent specialists to the scene to verify and clarify the situation.
To clarify the cause, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City took samples of fish and water from the farming area for testing and investigation.
At the same time, the report and recommendations suggest that the People's Committee of Dong Nai City should provide solutions to support people affected by the damage and help them restore production as soon as possible.
