According to a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporter, on the morning of May 31st, hundreds of local residents, police, military personnel, and forest rangers were working to remove the carcasses of dead fish floating on Tri An Lake. Thousands of catfish, carp, grass carp, and tilapia raised by local people in fish cages were found dead, floating on the water's surface. The dense mass of dead fish emitted a foul odor, seriously impacting the environment and the lives of surrounding residents.
Some affected fish farmers said that the mass fish deaths began on the evening of May 29th, following prolonged heavy rains. Within a short period, farmed fish died en masse, resulting in almost total losses for many cages and rafts.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, residing in Tri An ward, Dong Nai city, said that his family mainly raised catfish and grass carp this time. Within just two days, all of his family's farmed fish died completely. "More than 65 tons of fish, which were almost ready for harvest, suddenly died all at once, leaving us no time to react," Mr. Nguyen Van Manh shared.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, residing in Trang Bom ward, Dong Nai city, said that this was the first year his family had invested in cage fish farming on Tri An Lake. Since October 2025, he had stocked over 10 tons of various types of fish and was only a short time away from harvesting. However, after a heavy and prolonged rainstorm overnight, all the fish in the cages suddenly died en masse, causing significant economic losses for his family.
Immediately after the incident was reported, local authorities coordinated with relevant agencies to inspect the scene and organize the collection and disposal of dead fish to minimize environmental pollution.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Tri An Ward, Dong Nai City, said that immediately after receiving the information, the ward mobilized specialized departments, military forces, local security forces, neighborhood committees, and forest rangers from the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve to assist residents in collecting the dead fish and bringing them ashore to protect the environment of Tri An Lake. At the same time, the local authorities reported the incident to the Dong Nai City Department of Agriculture and Environment, requesting that specialists be sent to the scene to collect fish and water samples for testing to verify and clarify the cause. Initially, the cause is believed to be heavy early-season rains causing a sudden change in the water environment, leading to the mass fish deaths.
Currently, local authorities are continuing to monitor developments, support people in overcoming the damage, report and propose solutions to the Dong Nai City People's Committee to assist those affected; at the same time, they advise people to proactively take measures to respond to and minimize damage in adverse weather conditions.
