On April 28th, VPF announced the list of players and officials suspended from duty in Round 21 of the V-League. Accordingly, Ninh Binh Club will be without the services of key central defender Patrick Marcelino in their away match against The Cong - Viettel because he has accumulated three yellow cards.
Patrick Marcelino is a steel shield for Ninh Binh FC, having missed only one match since the start of the season. His absence will create a significant gap in the defense of the team from the ancient capital, especially in the crucial match against The Cong - Viettel.
Ninh Binh FC is currently ranked 3rd in the V-League standings and is determined to overtake The Cong - Viettel for second place in order to qualify for the Asian Cup next season. However, the gap between them and the military team is relatively large (5 points).
The Thể Công - Viettel team is also suffering losses, as head coach Velizar Popov is serving a disciplinary suspension. They will also be without the services of key player Nguyễn Văn Tú due to accumulating three yellow cards.
In the most recent round, both Ninh Binh FC and The Cong - Viettel FC failed to win. Ninh Binh lost 2-3 to Hanoi FC, while The Cong - Viettel FC drew 3-3 with Da Nang FC.
The match between The Cong - Viettel FC and Ninh Binh FC took place on the evening of May 3rd at Hang Day Stadium. The Cong - Viettel FC are still waiting for the VPF (Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company) to assign a referee; it remains unclear whether a domestic or foreign referee will officiate this key match of round 21.
The list of players suspended for V-League Round 21 also includes Nguyen Van Quyet, Nguyen Thanh Chung (Hanoi FC), Que Ngoc Hai, Phan Van Bieu, Nguyen Phi Hoang (Da Nang), and Nguyen Nhat Minh (Hai Phong).
