At Lach Tray Stadium, The Cong - Viettel Club actively played offensively against TP.HCM in search of a victory to keep their hopes of winning 3rd place in V-League alive. Before round 26, the army team had 41 points, 1 point behind the third-placed team, Cong An Ha Noi Club.
In the 9th minute, after overlapping with his teammate, Khuat Van Khang broke into the penalty area deep down the right wing and passed the ball back to Pedro Henrique who finished past Patrik Le Giang, putting The Cong - Viettel ahead 1-0.
When the first half had just passed more than half time, the army team suffered a loss of personnel in the 26th minute, where Phan Tuan Tai was injured and had to leave the field to make way for Nguyen Hong Phuc.
The lead helped The Cong - Viettel to untie the knot and play with excitement. They continued to maintain their attacking style and created many more dangerous shooting opportunities towards the goal of Ho Chi Minh City Club.
In the 49th minute, The Cong - Viettel's counter-attack put Nguyen Huu Thang face to face with Patrik Le Giang (HCMC). The midfielder of the army team confidently chipped the ball over the head of the Vietnamese-American goalkeeper to raise the score to 2-0.
In the final minutes, more opportunities appeared for The Cong - Viettel. Young midfielder Nguyen Cong Phuong had a smooth dribble in the penalty area but his shot could not beat Ho Chi Minh City goalkeeper Le Giang. 2-0 was also the final score of the match.
With a 2-0 victory over Hai Phong in the same match, Hanoi Police Club officially won the top 3 of V-League 2024-2025 thanks to 45 points, 1 point more than The Cong - Viettel, thereby ending the hope of the army team in this front.
Despite finishing 4th in the V-League, coach Velizar Popov's team still has a chance to take revenge when they meet the police team again in the National Cup semi-finals on June 26.
