Following the agreed-upon policy, the Politburo has chosen November 24th each year as Vietnam Culture Day, with the aim of making it a paid public holiday.
Thus, in 2026, civil servants and employees will have a total of 26 public holidays (including consecutive weekly days off), thanks to the plan to extend some holiday periods by swapping days off.
Specifically:
- New Year's Day is a four-day holiday, from January 1-4, thanks to the swapping of working days.
- The Lunar New Year lasts for 9 days, from February 14th to February 22nd (i.e., from the 27th day of the 12th lunar month to the 6th day of the 1st lunar month).
- Hung Kings Commemoration Day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month) is a 3-day holiday, from April 25th to April 27th, as the holiday falls on a Sunday and is compensated with a day off.
- The Liberation Day of Southern Vietnam, the reunification of the country, and International Labor Day on May 1st combine to form a four-day holiday period, from April 30th to May 3rd.
- The National Day on September 2nd includes a 5-day holiday, from August 29th to September 2nd, with consecutive days off before and after the main holiday.
- Vietnamese Culture Day, November 24th.
The evenly distributed holiday schedule throughout the year allows people flexibility in planning short or long trips , instead of concentrating their needs on a few peak seasons.
Previously, the four-day New Year's holiday showed a positive effect. The whole country is estimated to have welcomed around 3.5 million visitors, creating a favorable "launchpad" for the new year's tourism season.
Many destinations recorded large numbers of visitors, including Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Mang Den, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, and Mui Ne. The prominent trend was short trips, prioritizing relaxation, personal experiences, culinary delights , and tourism combined with year-end parties and small-scale MICE events.
Domestic tourism continues to dominate, while outbound tours are increasing in nearby markets such as Thailand, China, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. However, the proportion remains lower as tourists are saving their budgets for the Lunar New Year.

Southern tourists continue to show interest in trips to the North and coastal resorts, while Northern tourists choose the Northwest to experience the winter atmosphere or travel south to sunny beaches like Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and Con Dao.
The number of international visitors has grown strongly, mainly from key markets such as China, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The average hotel occupancy rate nationwide is around 51%, while many key locations have reached 65%.
Several destinations such as Sa Pa, Dong Van, Lo Lo Chai, Meo Vac, Moc Chau, Mang Den, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Hanoi Old Quarter and Ho Chi Minh City center recorded 100% occupancy rates before the holiday.

Ho Chi Minh City "leads" with an estimated 1.24 million visitors, a 65% increase compared to the same period in 2025, generating approximately 2,632 billion VND in tourism revenue. Ninh Binh follows with 723,000 visitors. In addition, Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Lao Cai, and An Giang all recorded significant increases in visitor numbers and revenue.
The market for New Year's Day tours in 2026 is seeing a diversification of products and a significant improvement in quality across the country.
Tour prices have increased slightly but remained stable thanks to businesses proactively making early reservations. Many hotels are offering discounts of 20-30%, vouchers, and complimentary services. Airlines and railways are increasing their operating capacity, and many key tourist routes are fully booked during peak seasons.
The National Tourism Administration assessed that the four-day New Year's holiday created clear room for growth in domestic tourism, encouraging tourists to spend more.
This is also considered an important starting point for the 2026 tourism season, aiming to welcome 25 million international tourists, 150 million domestic tourists, and generate total revenue of approximately 1,125 trillion VND in the year.
