Internal conflicts within the French national team ahead of the World Cup. |
According to L'Équipe The first cracks began to appear at the headquarters of the reigning World Cup runners-up. The focal point of the tension was a meeting between the entire team and FFF President Philippe Diallo on June 2nd. There, the players flatly rejected the proposal to allocate tickets to watch the matches in the United States.
Specifically, the FFF only allocated 8 tickets to each player, with a mere 2 free and the remaining 6 requiring a fee. The French players felt this number was insufficient and disrespectful, given the high cost of travel to the US and the need for strong support from family and friends on their journey to conquer the World Cup.
The turmoil didn't stop there. A covert economic battle was also underway when Diallo announced cuts to performance bonuses. The reason given by the FFF was the high operating and logistical costs of the tournament in North America.
Despite off-field issues, experts still expect professionalism to help the French team stand firm. Proof of this is that Coach Deschamps' star players still fully participate in promotional events for sponsors as a gesture of goodwill towards the FFF.
