From Hue , we decided to go to An Bang because we craved the smell of the sea. The trip was unplanned, just to find an opportunity to listen to the inner voice, let our emotions lead, and accept all unexpected situations.
This is the first time we have chosen to stay overnight in An Bang, although we have been to Hoi An countless times. An Bang beach still has a simple beauty. The silence also has its own rhythm. Perhaps that is why this beach has 3 words "an": An Bang beach, Cam An commune, Hoi An city.
The days here are completely relaxing, without interspersing work time like usual. We run around on the beach, soak in the clear water, listen to the waves gently lapping at our backs.
We swayed our feet to the sound of the wind, sipped some grilled seafood and a few cans of beer, walked barefoot on the smooth sand, and somewhere in our minds, we still felt the word “an”.
That very afternoon, we went to the old town (because I suddenly craved the feeling of sitting by the Thu Bon River sipping a cup of tea). I accidentally met my Moroccan friend Myriam who had lived in Vietnam for about 4 years and used to live in Saigon - where I had the chance to know her. It was so surprising, we shook hands and greeted each other. Luckily, she was also at An Bang beach so we made a date to "have a drink" that night.
After a hearty seafood meal, we headed to Myriam’s meeting point. The petite young woman chattered away about her new life in An Bang, Hoi An.
She and her boyfriend live in a large house with a garden. During the week, she does online jobs such as teaching English and marketing. On the weekends, she and her boyfriend perform music at cafes and bars, and work as photo models...
The work is quite diverse and free-spirited, flexible, suitable for her liberal personality like her favorite boho dresses.
In Morocco, the thinking of grandparents and parents is similar to that of previous generations in Vietnam. They want their children to have a stable life, and for girls to get married and have children.
Myriam decided to live away from home and do what she loved, and later when her parents needed someone to take care of them, she would probably choose to live somewhere close to her family.
I once stopped in Tam Ky, and here, everything was as peaceful as an afternoon dream. It was like just enough time for a pedestrian to stop and recharge.
As for An Bang, right at the moment of chatting with Myriam, I realized the 4 words “an” in this land. That is the word “an” in “An Bang”, in “Cam An”, in “Hoi An” and the word “an” in mind.
