Regarding employment, vocational secondary school graduates have every opportunity to compete with college graduates because there is not much difference in qualifications.
Reduce pressure on students
Currently, most vocational schools in the province are training in a dual-degree program after junior high school, meaning that students study both vocational secondary school and high school cultural programs in the continuing education system. However, the training facility FPT Polytechnic College in Dong Nai (FPT Polyschool Dong Nai) only trains vocational secondary school and teaches 4 cultural subjects according to the vocational training program (including: Math, Literature, History, Physics). In addition, the school enhances training in English, life skills, and soft skills for students.
The advantage of this vocational training program is that it is not too overloaded for students, there is no pressure on scores for cultural subjects but really focuses on vocational training. On the other hand, students still have the opportunity to continue studying at college level.
Master Tran Duy Phong, Director of FPT Polyschool Dong Nai said: “Currently, FPT Polyschool is training two systems including intermediate level for junior high school graduates and college level for high school graduates. I myself was very surprised because during the training process, the most outstanding students at the school were the vocational students after junior high school. They have a lot of creativity and learning ability. Almost all the valedictorians in the school come from students who choose the stream after junior high school.”
Also according to Master Tran Duy Phong, currently, FPT Polyschool Dong Nai is training more than 1,000 vocational students after secondary school with 3 main majors: information technology (web programming, software applications, software development, AI application programming); economic majors (e-commerce, logistics, communications and event organization); graphic design majors.
In the past 5 years, these professions have been chosen by many students after graduating from secondary school. Therefore, the school's recruitment work is quite favorable. The school's biggest advantage is that it is located in the heart of the enterprise (FPT Group is behind it with the policy of "studying at F school, working at F house"). Students and graduates of FPT Polytechnic have many job opportunities at member companies of FPT Group and enterprises with which FPT has signed cooperation agreements.
Businesses are ready to recruit secondary school graduates
Recently, Sonadezi College of Technology and Management (Sonadezi College) organized the Sonadezi College 2025 Job Fair with the participation of 40 businesses. Dr. Nguyen Tien Manh, Principal of the school, said that one of the three main goals of the job fair is for undergraduate students to participate in order to help them understand the labor market; the recruitment and acceptance process of businesses. From there, students can visualize the picture of human resource needs to know how to adjust their study plan to suit the needs of society and their own goals.
For vocational secondary school students, this is an experiential activity for them to clearly identify the profession they are studying in the general context of the labor market.
Nguyen Ngoc Diep, a student at the Leather and Footwear Technology College, said that this was the first time she had participated in a job fair. The fair helped her learn more about companies in the leather and footwear manufacturing industry and many other fields to gain more understanding of the labor market. The fair also helped her gain more confidence in job opportunities after graduation.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Phuong, human resources manager of Home Voyage Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tam Phuoc Industrial Park, Bien Hoa city), the company has a need to recruit workers who have graduated from vocational secondary schools in many fields with the requirement of having Chinese language proficiency.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, in charge of human resources at Binh Tien Bien Hoa Company Limited, said that there is not much difference in the level of professional qualifications between employees who have graduated from secondary or vocational colleges. The important thing is that candidates must have a solid grasp of their expertise and good learning ability, and a positive working attitude because after being hired, the company will also have a training process for employees.
According to the Government's Project on Vocational Education and Student Streaming in General Education for the 2018-2025 period, the goal by 2025 is to strive for at least 40% of junior high school graduates to continue studying at vocational training institutions at elementary and intermediate levels; for localities with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, the target is at least 30%.
