Should you install Windows on a MacBook?

Many users are familiar with Microsoft's Windows operating system but appreciate the luxurious design and reputation of Apple. Therefore, they want to install Windows on their Macbooks as an alternative to macOS.

You can absolutely use the Windows operating system on a Macbook. This option has both advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of installing Windows on a Macbook

Computer users familiar with the Windows operating system may find it quite difficult to use Mac OS on a Macbook.

In addition, many applications available on Windows are not yet supported for installation on Mac OS. Therefore, installing Windows on a Macbook offers users more advantages in work, study, and entertainment.

Macbooks offer good performance when running Windows, comparable to laptops running pure Windows (with the same specifications).

Disadvantages of installing Windows on a Macbook

While the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro are quite compatible with the Windows operating system, the Macbook Retina performs poorly with Windows.

Macbooks running Windows run much hotter than those running macOS, meaning the fan has to spin faster to dissipate heat, whereas Macbooks running macOS rarely experience high fan speeds.

Therefore, if a Macbook is installed with the Windows operating system and used for a long time, it can easily reduce the lifespan of the machine's components.

Macbooks running Windows will experience a significant reduction in battery life. For example, a 2016 15-inch Macbook Pro might have a battery life of around 7 hours, but if Windows is installed, the battery life will only last 4-5 hours.

This battery drain phenomenon stems from the cooling fan running at a higher speed; additionally, it could be due to the operating system not being optimized for the hardware, causing the CPU to work harder.

Some specific features on a Macbook will not work if Windows is installed (for example, Touch ID – Windows will indicate that it is not supported).

The MacBook's trackpad (an extremely important component) is highly regarded for its smooth multitasking capabilities. However, this is no longer true if you install Windows on your MacBook.

If you buy a Macbook and want to install Windows just because you're unfamiliar with macOS, you shouldn't. macOS was launched for Macbooks – it will be more compatible with the machine and has many advantages over Windows (higher compatibility, less frequent crashes, etc.).

If you need to use Windows on your Macbook for work, then you should install it (the weakness of Mac OS is that its app store is not as comprehensive as Windows), however, you shouldn't use it for extended periods.

If you spend a lot of time on Windows, it's best to invest in a Windows laptop to ensure a better experience.
