What do Dak Nong authorities say about the road being straightened into a U shape?

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động13/02/2025

(NLĐO) – Authorities in Dak Nong province claim that the construction of the U-shaped road was due to an obstruction caused by water accumulation, and not to divert traffic onto any private land.

The People's Committee of Gia Nghia City, Dak Nong province, has decided to allocate 8 billion VND to extend the U-shaped section of road (Y Bih Alêô road, Nghia Trung ward). Currently, this 130-meter-long extension is in the process of notifying households whose land is within the project area to carry out land acquisition and compensation for site clearance.

The People's Committee of Gia Nghia City has decided to spend 8 billion VND to connect the U-shaped road.

Mr. Ha Sy Son, Deputy Director of the Dak Nong Department of Transport, said that the unit was the investor of the U-shaped road section from 2010 and completed it in 2013 along with 3 other projects.

Regarding the numerous questions about why the road was built in a U-shape, Mr. Son explained that the investor was obligated to follow the planning regulations. At that time, the project was implemented according to the detailed construction plan for the southeastern functional area of Gia Nghia town, which was approved by the Gia Nghia Town People's Committee in 2007.

The U-shaped section of road is located within the land zoned for administrative offices.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Ha, Head of the Planning, Architecture and Urban Development Department of the Dak Nong Department of Construction - the unit that prepared the detailed construction plan for the functional area in the southeastern part of Gia Nghia city, which includes the Y Bih Alêô road and the U-shaped road.

According to Mr. Ha, in 2007, the area where the Y Bih Alêô road was to be built had a water catchment area (a large, very deep stream), so it was impossible to build a straight road across it. Instead, the road had to be curved to follow the terrain in a U-shape.

Over time, the area where the water accumulates has become more leveled and filled with sediment, so the People's Committee of Gia Nghia City decided to invest in extending the road straight to facilitate traffic flow.

According to Mr. Ha, the Gia Nghia City People's Committee had previously sent two documents to the Department of Construction providing feedback on adjusting the detailed construction plan for the southeastern functional area of Gia Nghia city. These documents included a proposal to change some administrative land plots to residential and commercial/service land. However, the Department of Construction responded that the area would retain its original administrative land use plan as per the previous general plan.

"The U-shaped road is due to the terrain, not to curve around any individual's land. When the new road is completed, this area will still be designated as administrative land, not residential land," Mr. Ha affirmed.
