(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Billiards player Duong Quoc Hoang made a significant contribution to the Asian team's victory over the European team with a score of 11-6, thereby winning the Reyes Cup championship on the evening of October 18th (Vietnam time).
After four days of intense competition, the Asian team, featuring Vietnam's number one player Duong Quoc Hoang, won the Reyes Cup (a pool billiards event named after the legendary Efren Reyes, held in the Philippines) after defeating the European team with a decisive score of 11-6. The Reyes Cup features two teams, Asia and Europe, each with five players, competing in a total of 20 matches over four days from October 15th to 18th. The team that reaches 11 points first will be crowned champion. With a 9-3 lead after three days, the Asian team entered the final day of competition with a relaxed mindset. On the final day, Quoc Hoang played his second doubles match with Ko Pin Yi against Mickey Krause and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz. Despite their opponents leading 2-1, Quoc Hoang confidently displayed exceptional shots, winning the match 5-3 with his teammate Ko Pin Yi, bringing the overall score between the two teams to 10-4, just one win away from the championship. The European team then won their next two matches, both thanks to Jayson Shaw, with scores of 5-3 and 5-2 against Carlo Biado and Quoc Hoang respectively, reducing the score to 6-10. However, Singaporean player Aloysius Yapp defeated Francisco Sanchez Ruiz to give the Asian team a 11-6 victory over the European team and win the prestigious Ryes Cup. Under the leadership of "The Wizard" Reyes, the Asian team won the tournament for the first time, despite being considered the underdog against the star-studded European team. Captain Aloysius Yapp was personally honored as "Best Player of the Tournament" for winning all five of his singles and doubles matches.
