With the advice of a community agricultural extension team, 600 hectares of coffee of a cooperative in Kon Tum were all purchased by a business.

On the morning of August 1, a working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam visited and learned about the activities of the Community Agricultural Extension Team in Dak Mar commune (Dak Ha district, Kon Tum province).

It is known that the Community Agricultural Extension Team (KNCĐ) of Dak Mar commune was established on August 29, 2022 by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (this is 1 of 2 provincial-level KNCĐ teams that were established on a pilot basis, another team is in Ha Mon commune). The Dak Mar Commune KNCĐ Team has 6 members, including the Team Leader who is an official of the Kon Tum Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the Deputy Team Leader who is the Vice Chairman of the Dak Mar Commune People's Committee, the members who are officials of the District Agricultural Service Center, commune officials and the Director of the cooperative. Most of the members of the Team have university degrees in agriculture, agricultural economics , forestry, law, and veterinary animal husbandry.

Since its establishment, the Dak Mar Commune Community Development Team has actively provided technical advice and support to members of the New Generation Agricultural Service Cooperative and farmers to produce 4C coffee (Common Code of Conduct for the Coffee Community).

Specifically, the Dak Ma Commune Farmers' Association has coordinated with Vinh Hiep Company Limited to organize 5 training courses on sustainable coffee production techniques according to the 4C Code of Conduct for 99 members of the cooperative and 870 farming households associated with the cooperative. In addition, the Farmers' Association has supported households in completing documents to request 4C certification.

With the consultation and support of the KNCĐ Group, Dak Mar Cooperative has connected with Vinh Hiep Company to consume products. Currently, all 600 hectares of coffee plantations of the Cooperative have become raw material areas for businesses, of which 205.4 hectares have achieved 4C coffee certification.

In 2023, the Cooperative supplied Vinh Hiep Company Limited with 500 tons of green coffee beans that met the required quality. The output of green coffee beans processed at the Cooperative is about 30 tons, the processed products: Coffee beans, Pure ground coffee are granted 4-star OCOP certification.

Speaking during the visit, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam highly appreciated the activities of the Dak Mar Commune Agricultural Extension Team in recent times. The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Agricultural Extension Team model is a new direction, meeting the requirements of production reality, a bridge connecting enterprises with cooperatives and farmers in the production and consumption of agricultural products, helping to improve production efficiency and increase income for farmers.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam suggested that in the coming time, the Dak Mar Commune Community Development Team should continue to perform well its assigned functions and tasks. During its operation, it should work and learn from experience, promote its supporting role, accompany cooperatives and farmers, build production chains, and contribute to the development of local agriculture.

According to the Kon Tum Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, from 2023 to present, the Dak Ma and Ha Mon Agricultural Extension Teams have coordinated with Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company to implement the Smart Coffee Cultivation Program to Adapt to Climate Change in Kon Tum Province; thereby supporting the company in collecting data on household coffee production through Survey Forms, selecting points, selecting households, monitoring, guiding and directing model techniques.

In 2024, 2 KNCĐ Teams supported Vinh Hiep Company Limited and the Community Development Center (CDC) to work with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Ha and Ngoc Hoi districts to request approval to implement the Project "Improving capacity and access to resources to support coffee production for indigenous communities; promoting coffee production methods that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and comply with EUDR in Kon Tum province".

From only 2 pilot groups, Kon Tum province has now established 70 commune KNCĐ groups, with the participation of 578 members, the number of established communes reaching 85%.

According to the National Agricultural Extension Center, after 2 years of pilot implementation, the model of community-based agricultural extension teams has shown positive signs, receiving support and response from Party committees at all levels, local authorities and farmers. In addition to 26 pilot community-based agricultural extension teams with 156 members, 13 provinces participating in the Project have established 1,071 additional community-based agricultural extension teams, with a total of 9,622 members.

In particular, implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the 2021-2025 period, 44 more provinces and cities nationwide have established KNCĐ groups with a total of about 4,070 groups, with 37,394 members operating to serve agricultural development and new rural construction in localities.
