The 2026 World Cup ticket rush has begun: 1.5 million people registered in 24 hours

World football's governing body FIFA said it received more than 1.5 million ticket applications from fans in 210 countries within 24 hours of opening the draw for tickets to the 2026 World Cup.

How much are 2026 World Cup tickets?

According to FIFA, ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup matches start from 60 USD (about more than 1.5 million VND), and flexible ticket prices will be applied in the first phase of ticket sales. Additional ticket sales phases are expected to start in October. In which, the highest price for later matches (including the final) can be up to 6,730 USD (about 177.5 million VND).

With the first registration period opening on September 11 for the majority of group stage matches, global demand for tickets has surged, with the United States, Mexico and Canada the main destinations, followed by Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, England, Spain, Portugal and Germany. In total, there have been more than 1.5 million applications in the past 24 hours alone, according to FIFA.

The response underscores the international appeal of the 2026 World Cup, which will be expanded to 48 teams for the first time and co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, with a total of 104 matches taking place in 16 cities, Reuters reported.

The random draw for ticket holders will take place on September 19, with the time of registration not affecting fans' chances of purchasing tickets. Successful applicants will be notified by email starting September 29 and assigned a ticket purchase time starting October 1.

In total, by September 10, when the September FIFA Days calendar ended, 18 out of 48 teams had won tickets to the 2026 World Cup, including: 3 co-host teams USA, Mexico and Canada, and 15 teams that passed the qualifying round. Of these, there are 6 teams from Asia: Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Korea, Jordan, Australia; 6 teams from South America: Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay and Paraguay; 1 team from Oceania: New Zealand; and 2 teams from Africa: Morocco and Tunisia.

The remaining 30 places for the 2026 World Cup will be determined, including teams in the African region in the FIFA Days schedule in October. The Asian region with the fourth qualifying round will compete for the remaining 2 places. The European region will end at the end of March 2026, determining up to 16 places for the final round. The same is true for the intercontinental play-off round. The CONCACAF region will compete for 3 places and will determine the teams in November this year.

The draw for the 2026 World Cup finals is scheduled to take place on December 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington. With 48 teams participating in the finals, the teams will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each. Mexico, which will play its opening match at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, is locked in Group A. The United States is locked in Group D, while the other co-host, Canada, is locked in Group B.

What is the scale of the 2026 World Cup?

A total of 16 cities from the three co-host countries of the United States, Mexico and Canada will host matches at the 2026 World Cup. Canada has two cities, Toronto and Vancouver. Mexico has three cities, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey. The United States has participating cities including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle.

The 2026 World Cup will be played mostly in the United States, starting with the quarterfinals at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The semi-finals will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The 2026 World Cup final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on July 19, 2026, followed by the third-place match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on July 19, 2026.

The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11, 2026, to July 19, 2026. The opening match will be held at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium, and the final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey.
