Concerts - live music events are creating a "wave" of night-time economic development and experiential tourism in many localities. Catching up with this trend, Hai Phong is promoting the development of concerts with the orientation of building a "Music City".

Many favorable conditions

Hai Phong is a major port city in the Northern coastal region, a place of economic, cultural and tourism intersection with a synchronous transport infrastructure system. Hai Phong is also known for its system of hotels, entertainment areas, conference centers, outdoor stages... Do Son beach resort and Cat Ba archipelago with open spaces are also suitable for organizing large-scale music events. Hai Phong also stands out with the advantage of two world heritage sites including Cat Ba archipelago and heritage sites in the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son and Kiep Bac complexes. The heritages, along with the liberal lifestyle of the people of the port city, create unique cultural materials, contributing to the formation of an image of a city rich in emotions, historical depth and the ability to connect music with local identity. These factors help Hai Phong not only have the conditions to organize concerts but also to build music programs with "unique messages", linking music with tourism experiences.

“According to research from recent events, music concerts have a strong ripple effect on the local economy. In the host city, hotels around the event area often have very high occupancy rates, even completely full. Transportation services, restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops have recorded a significant increase in the number of visitors,” said Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Phuong Anh, Faculty of Tourism, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). The event not only generates direct revenue from ticket sales, but also promotes expanded consumption by attendees during their stay. This shows that music concerts are not just emotional experiences, but are real economic drivers.

Many young people said that attending a concert is not simply about listening to music but about a journey. Nguyen Hong Nhung (22 years old, An Bien ward) shared that whenever there is a schedule for a favorite music concert, Nhung combines it with sightseeing, enjoying the cuisine and exploring the local lifestyle. If Hai Phong organizes a music concert, it will be a great thing, young people will prioritize staying in the city instead of having to move to other localities.

This is also expected by local people. Mr. Tran Van Manh (56 years old, Gia Vien ward) said that big music events will help local service areas, accommodation and restaurants have more opportunities to welcome more guests, especially during the low tourist season.

In fact, many localities have been successful in organizing concerts and creating a big impact on tourism. In Hanoi, 2 shows by BlackPink at My Dinh Stadium generated more than 630 billion VND in tourism revenue, with about 170,000 visitors flocking to the capital during the event. The concert series "Anh trai qua ngan cong thorn" was held in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hung Yen, attracting a total of more than 220,000 visitors... Music concerts can become the core of tourism development strategies, if organized with direction and linked with local products.

Towards the goal of “Music City”

Hai Phong is in the process of implementing the project to build a “Music City”, aiming to create a vibrant creative artistic environment, improve the cultural life of the community and build the image of a youthful and dynamic city. This means that developing concerts is not only to increase tourism revenue, but also aims at a higher goal of building a lifestyle, cultural space and artistic environment for the people.

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son, full-time member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society, commented: Hai Phong has all the necessary conditions to build a music city. Hai Phong has a rich music ecosystem and many open music spaces. With these conditions, Hai Phong can become Vietnam's music paradise.

According to the assessment of Dr. Pham Huu Thu, Vice President of the City Union of Science and Technology Associations, Hai Phong is the land of many types of music, the flow of modern music also exists here. Hai Phong also has cultural institutions such as the City Theater, the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, the Conference - Performance Center... In the city, a number of new cultural and artistic spaces are also being formed such as the Royal Island (Vu Yen) and Cat Ba Xanh...

The development of concerts in Hai Phong has a meaning that goes beyond entertainment activities. This is an opportunity for the city to make a breakthrough in developing the night-time economy, tourism services and building a modern and creative cultural environment. Hai Phong has all the conditions in terms of infrastructure, landscape, cultural identity and a dynamic young community to become a destination for large-scale music programs.

However, according to Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Phuong Anh, the city needs to encourage the participation of professional event organizing businesses, while creating opportunities for young local artists to perform, exploit indigenous cultural materials, and create music programs with their own unique mark.

When concerts are organized professionally, harmoniously combining art and tourism, Hai Phong not only increases revenue but also creates the image of a lively, open city, rich in experiences in the true spirit of "Music City".
